Well-known, famous people with Covid-19 and Long Covid

Canucks: Brandon Sutter experiencing long-haul COVID symptoms

July 22, unable to train, career over.

Former Vancouver Canucks center Brandon Sutter, who’s now an unrestricted free agent after his contract expired this offseason, hasn’t played an NHL game since May 1, 2021. That fact doesn’t look to change anytime soon, as Sutter tells The Province’s Ben Kuzma that he’s still dealing with symptoms of long COVID, presumably from his infection during the widespread outbreak on the Canucks during the 2020-21 season.

With Sutter noting in the interview that he still can’t do any cardio training at this point, a return to NHL play for him seems like an infinitesimally small chance.

Hasn't been framed as a post-Covid phenomenon, but Justin Bieber has Ramsay-Hunt syndrome four months post Covid infection.

After resting and consulting with my doctors, family and team, I went to Europe in an effort to continue with the tour. I performed six live shows, but it took a real toll on me. This past weekend, I performed at Rock in Rio and I gave everything I have to the people in Brazil.

After getting off stage, the exhaustion overtook me and I realised that I need to make my health the priority right now.

Dave Navarro.

“I am sorry to have to say that I will not be attending due to my continued battle with Long Covid that I have been dealing with since last December,” Navarro said in a statement shared on Jane’s Addiction’s social media channels on Thursday.

“I had hoped for a full recovery by October but I am still very fatigued and will not be able to join this leg,” Navarro added. “I am personally gutted as our original bass player has returned, Eric Avery. We wanted to bring you the original line up but that will have to wait until I am recovered. While the band is touring, I will be working on some new Jane’s material in the studio here in LA.”

Hughie Fury (British heavyweight boxer)

"I feel weak with no strength. I've had all sorts of checks and they've diagnosed me as having long covid symptoms."

"It is frustrating but there is nothing I can do if my body's not allowing me to train. I'm going to take time out for the rest of this year and pick up again next year when I've rested properly."

"Hughie is feeling sapped of all strength and the long covid diagnosis means he's taking complete rest away from boxing for the rest of this year. Health is more important than money or trying to keep everyone happy."

Hughie Fury out of Michael Hunter fight with long Covid symptoms | Trainer confirms he will return in 2023
Hughie Fury was due to fight Michael Hunter on October 29 in Birmingham, live on Sky Sports, but says doctors have advised him to withdraw; "There is nothing I can do if my body's not allowing me to train," says Fury in a statement
In a statement, Fury said he has been advised by doctors to rest, after not boxing for over a year.
"I am a professional boxer who needs to fight in order to pay my bills and to live," he said.
"But I have been out for over a year now and, to my frustration, I have been advised by doctors to take total rest at the moment because I'm suffering symptoms of long Covid.

This completely demolishes the already ridiculous "argument" that Long Covid doesn't affect the fit, tough, or self employed. Especially his comment that he has to box to pay his bills puts the nail on the coffin. I Wish him all the best. Takes courage to speak out like this.
I know the stereotype that fit, athletic, or tough people don't get long Covid, but self-employment is a new one. (I guess the idea is that self-employed people are hard workers.) I find it kinda funny because I was self-employed when I got ME. Sure, it was a side business, but it checks the box.

Continuing the same tradition that was in effect with us, Internet trolls are pretty much all about those 3, the same as deniers in the medical profession: spares the self-employed (sealions about employment status), vaccination status (denial of LC by the medical profession has lead to antivaxxers to attribute all LC illness to vaccines, the usual lazy/eats like crap/couch potato, and basically pretending that public health measures basically amounted to The Purge that causes fear Fear FEAR/stress/trauma in everyone.

I'd say those 4 basically make up 90% of LC denial and sealioning. Like everything BPS it's simply speculated as a necessary factor the conclusion that it doesn't exist.

Follow-up from a March post on two British tennis players dealing with LC. Tanysha Dissanayake has now been forced to retire from professional tennis at the age of 21.

That's a wrap on the best 16 years of my life. The sport that has made me into the person that I am today. It's been a crazy journey and I'd do it all again if I could but after over a year of being unwell, it is time to move on. This was the hardest decision I've had to make and even harder to accept.
I don't know a life without tennis in it but this sport has taught me so much and I know that great things are in store.
I couldn't be more grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout! I have made the best memories with the best people and i wouldn't change it for the world! )

Tennis- I love you but that's goodbye from me

“Even just talking to you, I had to rest for the whole of today and yesterday to prepare. So, I can’t do anything, I can’t study, can’t train, can’t socialise, can’t clean, can barely shower.”

“I can’t even describe how tough it’s been. I’ve always known that I might not have tennis in my life forever because you can get injured and anything can happen, but I always thought I’d have my studies to fall back on. But now, I can’t even read more than half a page without getting a headache."

“So, I want to get more people talking about it because I don’t think people understand the severity of long Covid. When I say long Covid, you or other people mainly think you’ve got a cold, but for longer. Whereas it’s so much more than that.”

The most devastating thought for Dissanayake is not knowing whether she will ever be able to return to some semblance of the life she lived before long Covid:

“What scares me the most is not knowing when and if I’ll get better. I’ve accepted that it’s probably not a life or death situation. But what I’m doing now is not really living either.
