Well-known, famous people with Covid-19 and Long Covid

The US CDC director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, has tested positive for COVID-19. This is the same person who downplayed masks and air filtration as preventative measures (once compared mask wearing to the "scarlet letter").

I would not wish COVID (or any other illness) on anyone! I hope no one reads that message into my comments!

I'm just saying that it's not surprising that not wearing a mask will increase your risk of getting sick. And it's not a good message to send when you are a leader in public health.

Tanysha Dissanayake has now been forced to retire from professional tennis at the age of 21.

10 minute interview on BBC 5 Live Sport (starts at 48:15).

No-one seems to have an answer for me... I don't think [doctors] were good enough... I went into hospital three times at 19, struggling to breathe, and they told me to go home and wait it out, and that I'd be OK in a few weeks... No-one did anything — it took them almost a year to find the heart inflammation alone... I was also told you look healthy so you must be healthy, so I don't think anyone took me seriously... I think there's only one or two doctors that have genuinely taken me seriously.

Her description of losing her life as a pro-tennis player, now with severe LC/ME and PEM at 21 is stark. Even so, she comes across as such a vibrant, positive voice.

She wants to recover and do medicine, so she can change things. I hope she does.

In the latest episode where Dr. Griffin provides clinical updates at TWiV, he gets a question concerning Physics girl and says he had heard about how sick she has become.

The question he gets is if it's really possible to become so sick from ME/CFS that it's life threatening. Dr. Griffin doesn't quite answer that, but asks people around Physics girl to get in touch, because there are things he can do. But he doesn't say anything about what they're able to do for severe ME/CFS.

I never get the “Kate Garraway’s husband” bit. Derek Draper was a key and well-known player in Labour’s internecine Blairite v Brownite noughties squabbles. Every issue of Private Eye featured “Dolly” Draper’s latest machinations. He’s much more of a celebrity than his wife, as far as I’m concerned.

Anyway, poor sod. I wish him all the best.

This may come off the wrong way and I mean absolutely no harm or snark by it, but it's a bit distressing that you'd think Derek Draper was the only person who was so ill following covid? I remember seeing a piece which said he was the sickest covid patient in the country (who wasn't dead?) or had been the worst affected. There is no context to these stories.

Sorry if I am not making the point well, it just seems like it's all about "this shouldn't have happened to us and it's a rare story" rather than "this shouldn't be happening to anyone and so many people are affected".
