Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health conference, 13-15th March 2018, "Children First – Ethics, Morality and Advocacy in Childhood"

Andy

Retired committee member
The RCPCH Conference returns to Glasgow from 13-15 March 2018 for what promises to be an energising three days of inspirational talks, informative workshops and exclusive networking opportunities. The theme for the conference is ‘Children First – Ethics, Morality and Advocacy in Childhood’ and there will be a selection of workshops and talks taking place throughout three days that will explore this crucial area.

The packed conference programme will offer great learning opportunities with a wide choice of sessions allowing delegates to plan the conference to suit their interests.

Despite the theme, Crawley will be there.
Day One, "How to manage CFS/ME, fatigue and pain in children, Professor Esther Crawley"

Other highlights
Day One, "The role of systematic family work in the management of children with severe medically unexplained symptoms, Dr Joanne Holmes"
and
Day Three, "‘Everyone Can Groove' (ECG) - How we can dance our way to health, Dr Guddi Singh"

I wonder if they have any advocates billed to speak.
Certain people seem to be reading a rather fine line these days. (Not including Donald Trump that is.)

If only @Grigor could see the day 3 highlight - then we may have an objective measure

There are other implications for this talk; RCPCH see my post here:

"
Preparing for RCPCH Progress (2018 curriculum)

This section provides information on the new curriculum for paediatric training, which launches in August 2018"

"
The RCPCH Progress curriculum has now been approved by the GMC for delivery from 1 August. Download the curriculum and some of the supporting syllabi below.

RCPCH Progress curriculum (PDF, 370KB, 38 pages)"
"The new curriculum is based on a framework of learning outcomes as opposed to the current list of competencies, and incorporates the Generic Professional Capabilities the GMC expect of all doctors. Collecting evidence for an outcomes based curriculum will be very different from getting a competency signed off. This new approach will allow greater flexibility for you to demonstrate achievement."
"
How can I get involved with the launch and implementation?

We are looking for trainees, tutors and supervisors who can help us spread the word about RCPCH Progress. "

They can't even get their English right:

Demonstrates ability
to mitigate against
potential risks.

From Oxford Dictionaries blog on whether to use mitigate or militate:

''If you are unsure which of the two verbs to choose, the best rule of thumb is to remember that militate is used with against, while mitigate is not. If you find yourself writing mitigate against, you’re using the wrong verb!

X We have also argued that overcrowded classes and lack of resources mitigate against the teaching and learning of science and maths.

We have also argued that overcrowded classes and lack of resources militate against the teaching and learning of science and maths.''

If only it was just their English that was wrong!

I was actually heartened when I saw the title of this thread and thought "Oh good, what a perfect venue to discuss the shenanigans and disgraceful behaviour of EC. Oh well :(

Day One, "How to manage CFS/ME, fatigue and pain in children, Professor Esther Crawley"

Establishing herself as a pillar of ethics and morality in the hope that it will help as her machinations become more widely known and discussed.

Day One, "The role of systematic family work in the management of children with severe medically unexplained symptoms, Dr Joanne Holmes"

How to scare the shit out of families with ill children so they do what you want.

Day Three, "‘Everyone Can Groove' (ECG) - How we can dance our way to health, Dr Guddi Singh"

FFS.

At least she is not a keynote speaker, merely doing an early morning practise session on the first day. Hopefully the turn out won't be huge.

Probably not worth crowdfunding Dr Rowe to come over. We should leave that to next year when he and Dr Speight can take centre stage with a keynote address on "Science based approach to ME," a serious, multi system....

Feel free to suggest suitable other lecture topics and workshops.

Interesting though, will she fly back to Bristol for the next day meeting on Trial design at which she was scheduled to speak for 10 mins? If imy memory is correct.
What are the odds that she'll ditch that, delegate it to a colleague and sty up in Scotland for the dinner on Wed and other networking opportunities.
Anyone in Scotland want to arrange a local showing of Unrest on the Monday evening or leaflets to hand out to participants?
