It was a large family party on Saturday. Someone present was identified as an asymptomatic contact of a coronavirus case and tested Monday or Tuesday. On Wednesday the test came back positive. So the teachers present had come in to contact with someone incubating the virus and potentially infective. They shared a common room with my daughter until Wednesday and she shared our house with us until today.

Contacts of known virus-positive individuals are told to self-isolate.

We have 25 cases in London. On Monday our daughter identified two people she knew who indirectly knew positive cases. By Wednesday it was about six. But this was the only case just two steps away.

Education materials are being developed by a GP Working Resources group that Dr Nina Muirhead has contact with. There is also a CMRC Education group. I am not directly involved but the plan is to have modules ready for medical schools and RCGP . Both would need to be approved by RCGP and whoever oversees medical student Education.

DIAGNOSIS, MANAGEMENT AND CARE OF ME AT THE LSHTM – MEDICAL EDUCATION EVENT

    APRIL 01, 2020 @ 06:00 PM - 09:00 PM BST

As part of #MEAction’s continued efforts to deliver medical education tools and events to healthcare professionals, #MEAction UK has organised a special education event on April 1 (6-9pm BST), titled “Diagnosis, Management and Care of ME”, hosted by The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).

This medical education event is free and aimed at consultants, as well as junior doctors, GPs, nurses and other healthcare professionals. CPD credits have been applied for and the session will include the screening of award-winning film Unrest and a discussion and Q&A with Mrs Caroline Kingdon, Dr David Tuller, Dr Nigel Speight and Dr William Weir. Individual case studies will be part of the panel to share their experiences.

We are encouraging consultants and/or other healthcare professionals to this medical education event so they learn more about myalgic encephalomyelitis. The event will cover: the range of presentation of ME symptoms, the latest developments in research and management of ME as well as understanding how to provide effective care and management advice. The session will also cover paediatric management and care.

    Speakers:

Mrs Caroline Kingdon – Research Fellow, Research Nurse and UK ME/CFS Biobank Lead

Dr David Tuller – DrPH, senior fellow in public health and journalism at UC Berkeley’s Center for Global Public Health

Dr Nigel Speight – Paediatric ME specialist

Dr William Weir – Consultant physician and ME specialist

Nothing against Unrest but Voices from the Shadows and the Dialogues videos are much stronger, in my opinion. They also reflect what reality is like in the UK and local context can be important when assessing the impact on patients and the support they should be able to access but are denied.

I'm glad the event is being postponed. It is the responsible thing to do. I wouldn't want to see anyone putting themselves at any unnecessary risk.

Astonishing that it took them so long to postpone this.
