Abstract
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), also known as Pain Encephalopathy, Painful Encephalomyelitis (ME), is a condition characterized by prolonged fatigue that is not significantly relieved by rest, not caused by a previous medical condition or by sustained exercise.
The symptoms are quite diverse, but not specific to this disease entity.
The most common are: problems with concentration and memory, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, joint pain, sleep disturbances, headache.
Moreover, the study of the functioning of the autonomic nervous system and exercise intolerance is considered important in the process of diagnosing adolescents with ME / CFS.
The presented research analysis shows that adolescents with ME / CFS want to be understood and their disease, which few understand, be recognized as real.
Seems, that continuing education and social activity in young ME / CFS patients is critical to maintaining quality of life. ME / CFS in adolescents can lead to serious problems related to absenteeism, poorer quality of life at school and university, and underperformance compared to healthy adolescents.
Anxiety disorders may coexist with ME / CFS in adolescents.
Adjunctive treatment of comorbidities may be considered as needed.
There is an urgent need to establish an effective treatment for ME / CFS. and underperforming compared to healthy adolescents.
