Never fear. KCL is putting together a team to advise on and treat the most important part of this. The "functional overlay" presenting as anxiety and depression and leading to perpetuation of symptoms. A course of CBT for all. Perhaps.

I'm willing to bet far greater numbers than that were infected... It seems so virulent simply because they aren't reporting the full numbers.

Yes that's a possibility, that more people have caught it than is being detected and reported, therefore the mortality rate may be lower than the figures suggest. SciAm says about the Wuhan coronavirus:
If there are asymptomatic infections, the mortality rate would be much less. Among symptomatic people, the mortality rate is around 2 percent. It was 10 percent with SARS, and 30 to 35 percent with MERS. It may be less virulent than those two or it may evolve. It’s too early to know.

Current figures are 830 confirmed cases, and 26 dead. Ref: here. So ostensibly that's a mortality rate of 3.1% — assuming there are no asymptomatic infections, or mild infections which are mistaken for a cold, and so not reported.

Interesting that some sources suggest the Wuhan coronavirus incubation period is 10 to 14 days. That's a bit longer than the incubation period of influenza virus, which is 1 to 4 days. Possibly that may make it harder to track new cases, as you may contract the virus from someone, but will not show symptoms until up to two weeks later.

Well the SARS outbreak here in 2003 was quite concerning too. I had a phlebotomy technician arrive at my place wearing a whole face covering mask and wore very thick gloves. She stood 4 feet away from my door asking if I had been exposed to anyone recently with potential SARS before coming in my apartment.

Wuhan bans cars, Hong Kong closes schools as coronavirus spreads
BEIJING (AP) — The virus-hit Chinese city of Wuhan, already on lockdown, banned most vehicle use downtown and Hong Kong said it would close schools for two weeks as authorities scrambled Saturday to stop the spread of an illness that has infected more than 1,200 people and killed 41.

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam said her government has declared the outbreak an emergency and will close primary and secondary schools for two more weeks on top of next week's Lunar New Year holiday. They will re-open Feb. 17.

She said that direct flights and trains from Wuhan would be blocked. The outbreak began in the city in central China and has spread nationwide and overseas, fueled by millions of people traveling during the country's biggest holiday.

China cut off trains, planes and other links to Wuhan on Wednesday, as well as public transportation within the city, and has steadily expanded a lockdown to 16 surrounding cities with a combined population of more than 50 million, greater than that of New York, London, Paris and Moscow combined.

The cities of Yichang, Suizhou and Jingzhou were the latest added to the list on Friday evening and Saturday.
