Well-known, famous people with ME/CFS (public thread)

If its an infection, it might be detected and specified. Waking up sick can be PEM. People can refer to PEM as being sick. A lot of these news reports talk about not pushing through an unspecified, unexplained illness. As a technique to maximise and expedite convalescence.

If this man is labelled with ME/CFS and/or LC, then it devalues him. Anyone who looks can find out all that is said about these conditions by all sides of the divide. Sports medicine can find it.

What was identified is an Achilles tendinitis - sounds like an inflamed tendon - sounds like the tendon that can even be snapped by a nasty antibiotic with very nasty "side-effect". Antibiotics can be given stupidly without identifying an infection eg to get children up and back to school.

He had a viral onset (around a year ago) and deals with fatigue. So a post viral fatigue syndrome.
At least.

I think If sports medicine wants to find out - is this virus in his blood - then sports medicine can get the test done.

If he does not say he has ME/CFS, Covid or Long Covid, maybe he would disagree. As far as I can see, no-one has asked him. Its sounding like the matter of "coming out". Which doesn't mean its ME/CFS.

I think people need some control over the labels attached to them. I don't like being labelled with labels I don't agree to. So some say I am in denial. There may be exceptions to my copyright.

Former Never Mind The Buzzcocks host Mark Lamarr has been banned from driving despite claiming it would cause him “exceptional hardship”.
[..]
The former TV presenter said that he suffers with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and that using a bus stop would be “out of the question” on a bad day, and that walking to the train station can be “quite exhausting” for him.

He said that on “bad days” he will have to “lay down for a day or two” and will be unable to walk for weeks.

Lamarr also told the court that he is “effectively retired” and is now “dealing records”, and that he uses his car to “find stock”.

Many fond memories watching of NMtB during his run, so very sad that he's a fellow sufferer, though also very glad that it apparently has not taken away his ability to enjoy music.

Important note from the full article: he hasn't permanently been banned from driving due to his ME/CFS - he was handed a 6 month ban for speeding (6mph over the limit... which maybe does seem a bit harsh, maybe there's more to the story?).

Apparently he already had points on his licence from a couple of previous speeding convictions—I don't think you'd normally get a ban for that level of infringement if it was your first offence.

He’s always been a speed demon. Allergic to speed limits.
