Abstract
Introduction
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a clinical entity characterized by the
presence of severe and disabling fatigue, combined with a set of
physical and psychological symptoms. Its etiology is unknown and
therefore there is no curative treatment for the disease. Currently, the
therapies used to approach this table consist of: graduated therapeutic
exercise, cognitive behavioral therapy and pharmacological therapy.
Objective
To carry out a systematic review to collect and understand the effects
and benefits of current therapies in the treatment of Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome.
Methods
A search was made in the main databases ('Pubmed', 'PEDro' and
'Medline') and a subsequent bibliographic review of 16 randomized
clinical trials, focused on the CFS approach from therapeutic exercise,
cognitive behavioral therapy and combined therapy.
Results
The results were encouraging for both therapies, obtaining positive
effects in 14 of the 16 articles studied, highlighting fundamentally the
clinically significant improvement in fatigue and general physical
functioning.
Conclusion
Graduated therapeutic exercise and cognitive behavioral therapy seem
safe and effective interventions for the treatment of Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome.
