The test already existed, they just had to validate whether it worked for this strain.

I'm not so complementary, they've known about this for some time and have been lying about the scale of the outbreak (hiding behind massaged "confirmed infection" rates), it wasn't until more than a few people died and the topic blowing up on Chinese social media that they started to act.

No. That is a bit of a false stereotype.

Yes. News coverage of China usually show citizens wearing masks. I believe that it is for people who are unwell. They are trying not to infect others. And air pollution. Not to protect from getting an infection. That is what I have been told a couple of times.

It’s mainly a pollution thing, they were all wearing masks 20 years ago in China. I’ve been playing a game of count the masks this afternoon while shopping, most are of the surgical variety but a few younger people have black or printed ones.

ETA: some have a small hole cut into the mouth area so they can smoke a cigarette while riding lol

Oh wow, is this a permanent move to get away from the teletubbies or are you on holiday?

Just a holiday to get away from my ex. I’ve travelled the length of the country on the back of a motorbike. Resting in the support vehicle with the luggage when needed. Travelled with 10 other bikes. The blokes were amazing, carried me when I was paralysed etc.

my ex turned up at mine the day I left a month ago, saw the bag packed and asked if I was going away for the weekend. Told him, ‘nope! I’m off to Vietnam for a month by bike. See ya!’

As I suspected, the Chinese government first tried to cover up the outbreak and sadly even promoted a large communal banquet in the area, despite knowing about the outbreak.

Ah right. But they did use the viral genome sequencing data to optimize the PCR test:

oh great! I ate a snake and it was a cobra. I swallowed its heart while it was still beating in a shot glass of vodka. If you do silly things like that, you deserve a hideous virus o_O

I’ve heard they’re stopping people flying out of China tomorrow.

So if they touch an infected surface they can inhale all the way into their lungs! Perfect.
