Well done thanks Tom and everyone.

Sounds like its just me being ignorant then, I guess I should be apologising.

We really do need this kind of work to be done, it makes a big difference to have a well positioned academic perspective available to present to media and government. His work strikes me as reminiscent of Prof Leonard Jason's in the measured rational tone questioning the assumptions of the BPS lobby.

In the absence of govt funding its down to us but I wonder what can be done to get him more secure funding? Is there anything we can do to get him and Dr David Tuller tenured like Prof Leonard Jason?

It would be somewhat galling to sit and watch the BPS lobby hoover up all the grant money again.

Wouldn't it be nice if tenure could be obtained like that? In the US, some faculty are hired into tenure-track positions that are funded by the university. Those positions are limited. Most faculty are outside faculty--linked to a university project that is funded from grants, gifts, and other non-university moneys. They don't have the protection or the responsibilities (serving on committees, etc) of tenured positions. I don't know how it works in UK.

I've just donated to Dr Keith Geraghty's appeal, which ends at the end of the month.

Getting papers into peer-reviewed journals, as Keith has done, is very important for moving the field forward, but is not easy, particularly with some biopsychosocial peer reviewers.

Keith also does important peer review work himself, which is unpaid and few people would get to hear much about.

My donation was unfortunately only small. I do have a monthly standing order for the Irish ME/CFS Association research fund. It gave him €3000 previously and the members are currently voting on how much he should get out of a pot of €35,000 (he knows about this vote, and it is separate to this appeal).

I didn't realise Keith's crowdfunding was about to close. Is there a closing date in any of the information?
Edit: I'll add it to this week's news. Apologies to Keith for leaving it out this week and only highlighting David Tuller's appeal. I was going to go back to including Keith's appeal next week.

Didn't know Keith was also doing peer review on top of writing papers himself.
Have donated to both his and Dave's appeals.

I mainly know that from talking to him over the years. He does mention it here after I mentioned it:
