Professor Jernej Ule Delivers IoPPN Inaugural Lecture “Understanding protein-RNA condensates and their disruptions in ALS”

The Centre Director for UK Dementia Research Institute at King’s was first to deliver a lecture as part of the 2022/23 IoPPN Inaugural Lecture Series.

On Monday, 5 December 2022, Professor Jernej Ule delivered a lecture titled “Understanding protein-RNA condensates and their disruptions in ALS” at the Wolfson Lecture Theatre at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). He joined the IoPPN earlier this year as Van Geest Professor of Neurodegeneration Research and UK Dementia Research Institute Centre Director.

Professor Sir Simon Wessely, Interim Executive Dean, IoPPN and Regius Professor of Psychiatry at King’s, opened the lecture with a welcome speech showcasing Professor Ule’s career highlights. Professor Sir Wessely said to Professor Ule “You have indeed had a stellar career. Starting in Ljubljana, you then had an amazing progression in Rockfeller, Cambridge, UCL, and the Crick Institute, but of course all of this is but preparation for the best of all – coming here. So we are more than excited to now have you as the Centre Director at UK Dementia Research Institute at King’s.

Professor Christopher Shaw, Professor of Neurology & Neurogenetics and the former Director of UK Dementia Research Institute at King’s closed the evening with a vote of thanks, expressing “The whole field of FTD (Frontotemporal Dementia) and ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) biology has been changed by the technology that Jernej and his colleagues have developed.”
