Moot I think. Depends on how modular and heterogeneous things turn out to be maybe.

I don't know if this question has been asked but can you distinguish which of the two ME types are affected by their ME being triggered by a cold or virus and then also can be seemingly switched off for time by a cold or Covid. Would this occurrence still apply to both types of ME or one in particular?

I am not saying there are two or three or six, just that there may be relatively separate groups, as a caution to lumping everyone together with one explanation.

Chapter 29 of the Kurzgesagt book and now I know what an interferon is (they're amazing!). I now understand two words of the title! :woot::woot::woot:

Short chapters, easy read, nice pictures - join me, fellow biology neophytes! There's still time!

I cannot stand the Kurzgesagt book, too many errors and misinformation in the autoimmunity section in particular. I think wikipedia is more accurate and valuable to learn from.

For those who don't know, that was what he had engraved on his headstone.

Me too. Body-wide pain was there from day one, and the more I push myself, the sicker I get, and the worse the pain gets. Never less than a dull background roar, and usually more than that, sometimes very nasty indeed.

As it says on the tin: myalgic encephalomyelitis. Though I suggest it is more than just muscles, includes joints and white tissue as well.

Which is, in no small part, why I am such a grumpy fecker. Forty years of it, without relief, tends to do that to a man. :grumpy:

They’re probably confused at all these hits to their archive page… refreshing looking for new papers. At least we know someone has found the admin password and they’re up and running again!

I bet the moment I go to bed tonight it will be published. It is just after 7pm NZ time right now. I wonder if I pretend to go to bed early it will come out sooner?

When I'm waiting for something like that, I like to think of sleep as time travel - close my eyes and it will instantly be seven hours later...

Don't worry Sasha. The fun of science is unlearning all the stuff you thought you had learnt.
Most of the pure factual content will be OK but the story built around it will be full of mistakes. The fun is finding the mistakes and replacing them with something useful.

TBH, I was already wondering if dendritic cells don't really present antigens in hot-dog buns...
