I don't think the MEA would be under NDA. It would be Charles who would have to agree to the confidentiality agreement, rather than the MEA as an org.

I vaguely recall reading that one of those prominent in developing the psychological approach re ME in the UK had trained as a psychiatric nurse; she had a relative who was a prominent MP --- so was able to influence Government policy.

Guess you can be lucky/unlucky re those who have influence.

Trudie Chalder was a psychiatric nurse, I think, before retraining as a CBT therapist. I have no idea whether she has any influential relatives.

Not much new to this but:
After Matt pressing him, Mr Gwynne said that after an intensive day at the Home Affairs Select Committee during the week he was completely wiped out and "spent the whole day in bed" afterwards. He recommended listeners suffering with post-viral fatigue to "pace yourself and not overdo it, otherwise you're out of it for the rest of the week."

He concluded that "if the DWP doesn't recognise that a serious portion of the population might be going through this long covid viral fatigue, they're going to be penalising people who are unwell because they don't recognise a condition that is now very prevalent in the population."

Screams in DWP pushed for PACE strictly because of the savings.

NICE obviously deserves dirty looks as well. Some people are soon going to have to account for a whole lot of destruction they caused while being told they were causing that destruction and are still happily chugging along with the destruction because it's so much fun to think holistic and all that, as long as by holistic you mean strictly psychosomatic, obviously.

I hope he gets in on the APPG and pushes not only for change but an investigation of what the hell happened to derail things so badly, when rest and pacing literally was the standard advice before interlopers like Wessely came along.

Might as well just leave that here for no particular reason:

What has become apparent is that the "new" GET treatment is merely the old treatment for Neurasthenia via Effort Syndrome. You can cure yourself of effort syndrome if you really want to. Or so it was said.

What is surprising is that this was not made explicit.

Not sure where I got it. I think he was just referring to the fact sheet but in his own words. Searching for some quotes brings me to this thread: https://www.s4me.info/threads/who-w...eads-to-poor-outcome.5109/page-12#post-239413, but I think it only contains the second picture I included. I could not find the header for "the conventional view".

I'm sure it's actually on Wessely's website but not in searchable format. Someone really ought to archive his website as I'm sure it will be scrubbed clean in the near future.

Ah. I think I remember where I might have seen it... this was on one of the slides from the talk he gave in Palermo in 2008:

but it was unreferenced so could have come from literally anywhere. But it is a direct quote...
