Miriam E. Tucker: CFS takes down doctors, too

Tells story of Gary Solomon, Mark Vink and anonymous Dr. X and Dr. Y - all MDs who developed ME.

Asked what he would like other physicians to know about ME/CFS, Vink responded "...that this is a debilitating neuroimmune disease, which has got nothing to do with being tired."

Dr X says that in contrast to widespread misconception, "This is not a psychiatric or psychological illness that can be cured by positive thinking or mere deconditioning that can be cured by aerobic exercise." In fact, "incautious exercise or activity can harm patients."

This summer, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to revise its information on ME/CFS for healthcare providers to incorporate the IOM diagnostic criteria.
At Invest in ME, Dr. Unger said the CDC Information for Healthcare Providers would be available in June. That would mean tomorrow (Friday).

We've been waiting a year for this "Coming Soon" content. I'm not holding my breath.

PS: Another great article by Miriam Tucker.

Got an update today from the CDC on the delayed "Information for Healthcare Providers". I had written to let them know that Dr. Unger had stated the new content would be available in June, and the CDC had missed the deadline.

For personal reasons, the CDC delay has been a major inconvenience to me.

Thank you for your follow-up note. We at CDC share your sense of urgency regarding the posting of web content about ME/CFS for Healthcare Providers. In checking the draft webpages, we discovered some technical issues that have to be addressed prior to releasing the webpages. We regret any inconvenience that this unavoidable delay has caused you. The webpages for Healthcare Providers will be posted as soon as possible. This might be as soon as this week, but will depend on the time required to correct the technical issues identified.

Thank you again for your interest in this important topic.

Sincerely,
ME/CFS Program

Once the new CDC content is available, it definitely requires a new thread.
