International ME/CFS Conference 2025 Berlin May 12-13

Just noticed that all patients in the trial were female. Wonder if there are diseases with very different responses to meds between males and females?
 
I'm not sure when the videos will become available but I'd also highlight Dr Anna Aschenbrenner's talk that came at the end of day 1. Data from paper in preparation.

Using high-dimensional flow cytometry, they showed changes in NKs. However, they could not find a difference in immune cell subtypes when looking at subgroups based on causative infection (SARS2, EBV, influenza etc). And defined two severity subsets based on transcriptome.

Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the ME/CFS Research Foundation organised the “International ME/CFS Conference 2025“ on 12-13 May 2025 in Berlin. The event was directed at medical professionals, researchers and interdisciplinary experts in the fields of medicine and biology.

In addition to presentations, the two-day conference featured more than 40 scientific posters. Among the posters, 3 outstanding contributions were awarded poster prizes by the ME/CFS Research Foundation via a scientific jury.

  • The interesting (and perhaps fundamental?) findings from the 2025 3rd International ME/CFS and Long COVID conferencehighlighted the emergence of Europe as a significant center of ME/CFS and long COVID research. It was encouraging to see the number of younger researchers involved.
 
I have just watched Tronstad's talk - I am wondering if his theories are linked with Fluge and Mella's B cell stuff or if they are separate hypothesis? They are part of the same research group if I'm not mistaken.
 
I am popping back from my S4ME holiday to highlight the fact that in Jeroen Den Dunnen's talk, two of the subgroups groups of LC patients his team identified had markers of neuronal damage and elevated type 1 interferons respectively, which fits well with a couple of the hypotheses we've been discussing on here lately.

I know there's a lot of skepticism about autoantibodies generally on here, and mouse models of this kind as well, and I'm certainly not super convinced by the autoantibody story myself but his talk is interesting, and they seem to have a comprehensive plan of where to go next, so I look forward to seeing how their research progresses.
