Perhaps. But it's also a cohort selection issue...

The Institute of Medicine report discredited this study because of that, stating,
“A study suggesting a role for childhood trauma in ME/CFS used the broad empirical definition of ME/CFS, which resulted in a biased sample with overrepresentation of individuals with depression and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (Heim et al., 2009). The unusually high proportion of subjects with serious psychiatric problems likely explains the study finding of an association between ME/CFS and adverse childhood experiences. No other studies have suggested a higher rate of childhood trauma in those with confirmed ME/CFS as opposed to nonspecific chronic fatigue."​

I don't quite understand the "onset" criteria in the review for the types of studies to be included but CDC did a population study in the mid 2000s that found childhood trauma increased risk of CFS:
"Individuals with CFS reported significantly higher levels of childhood trauma and psychopathological symptoms than control subjects. Exposure to childhood trauma was associated with a 6-fold increased risk of CFS." (Heim et al, Childhood Trauma and Risk for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2009)

The two Heim et al CDC child trauma studies used the so-called empiric criteria (Reeves et al, 2005). I had this letter published challenging those criteria:
