As in previous years, the University of California, Berkeley, had designated April as a month for campus projects to seek donations through the online crowdfunding platform. Given the situation, the university shortened the campaign and urged all the projects to crowdfund again in October. That's why I am now seeking funds to support my academic position at Berkeley's Center for Global Public Health from January through June.

I hope to raise $60,000 in tax-deductible donations to Berkeley to cover the Center for Global Health's six-month costs for my position: salary ($40,000), benefits ($15,000, mostly for health insurance), and Berkeley's 7.5 % gift fee ($4,500.)

Given it's an American institution probably not.

In case it helps here are approximate conversions from USD to GBP, and the same with the 7.5% added on top in case you want to account for the Berkeley fees in your donation. I used Google for the currency conversion, it is highly likely that your card issuer will use a different rate.

$10 = £7.74 ($10.75 = £8.32)

$25 = £19.35 ($26.88 = £20.80)

$50 = £38.50 ($53.76 = £41.60)

$100 = £77.40 ($107.50 = £83.20)

$250 = £193.50 ($268.80 = £208.00)

$500 = £385.00 ($537.60 = £416.00)

$1,000 = £774.00 ($1075.00 = £832.00)

$2,500 = £1935.00 ($2688.00 = £2080.00)

Done.

To be pedantic, if you want to ensure you also cover the 7.5% fee, then you need to add a tiny bit more than 7.5% to your donation. For example, if you add 7.5% to a $10 donation, and so donate $10.75, Berkeley will take 7.5% of $10.75, which is $0.81, meaning you end up donating $9.94. But if you add 8.11% instead of 7.5%, and then round up to the nearest $1, the fund gets your full amount plus a bit.

Pedantic I know, but every little helps ;) :)

Edited: Corrected $0.081 to $0.81.
