This is a really exciting step for us. It came as a direct result of the NHMRC’s ME/CFS Advisory Committee’s work (a health economics study is one of the committee’s recommendations), and we were excited to see the Dept of Health move forward on this even before the committee’s report was finalised. The committee’s consumer reps were sent the department’s one page brief and asked for our input prior to it being finalised and published. That too is a new step (how much they took our feedback on board is another matter, but we’ve never been asked before). We just have to hope that a good team wins the grant, and that our emphasis on the importance of consumer engagement has been heard.
