15 Nov 2017 | Invest in ME offering remote-linked robots to children with ME to help end isolation

March Update by IiME Research: http://www.investinme.org/IIMER-Newslet-1711-02.shtml

Invest in ME Research have decided to extend the trial for two families by an extra month, using our own funds.

We feel that removing the robots at this stage will be detrimental to the progress made in the trial - something which the charity does not wish to occur.

Therefore, chairman Kathleen McCall has authorised a payment to No Isolation for an additional month of using the AV1 robot in order that continuity can be maintained whilst we search for a longer term solution.

The charity is discussing with No Isolation on other ideas and we value their positive response and great support.

The isolation of young people due to the consequences of ME is unaccceptable.
Whilst the charity continues to build a biomedical research base in a Centre of Excellence for ME - which is the only way to make progress in tackling this disease - we also are determined to help families wherever we can in tackling the effects of ME wherever we can.

Makayla Nunn is crowdfunding to enable her to keep her AV1 robot 'Robbie' beyond the trial period:

Priory headteacher, Jane McBride, said: “Makayla is a true inspiration to so many and we admire her determination and courage.

“Robbie the robot is the latest example of her wanting to lead a full and fantastic school life.

“As a school, we are proud to be part of this exciting educational trial, and Robbie is now an integral part of the class and is very well behaved.”

Makayla’s mum, Michelle, added: “We are hoping Robbie will help us change people’s attitudes towards ME.

“We want to make it clear the illness is not about people not wanting to do things, or not wanting to go to school, it affects people of any age.

“In many respects she has been robbed of a childhood and the things others take for granted, such as interacting with friends and going to school.”

“ME affects people’s lives in a variety of different ways.”

The No Isolation avatars will take part in #MillionsMissing.

We will have five avatars at the #MillionsMissing protest in Berlin (No Isolation is bringing them from Amsterdam) and the protest in Bristol will have one (the one mentioned in the post above).
