Blaming the victim, all over again: Waddell and Aylward’s biopsychosocial (BPS) model of disability, 2016, Shakespeare et al

Yes, he was an observer for the DWP. He then left the DWP and was asked to stay on (as an observer, I think) in a personal capacity. He did not declare his many conflicts of interest even when he was there in a personal capacity. I seem to recall seeing that while a DWP representative attended...

Michael Sharpe: Mind, Medicine and Morals: A Tale of Two Illnesses (2019) BMJ blog - and published responses

It is of course a response to the Blease, Geraghty papers on epistemic injustice. Sharpe feels this need to respond to everything, so that if people who take a different view from him post a philosophical paper he has to do one of his own to counter.

Michael Sharpe: Mind, Medicine and Morals: A Tale of Two Illnesses (2019) BMJ blog - and published responses

They all claim that CBT-GET is effective in eg cancer, MS, but the evidence is just as awful as it is for ME. The whole thing is utter nonsense.

Michael Sharpe: Mind, Medicine and Morals: A Tale of Two Illnesses (2019) BMJ blog - and published responses

It's awful. It's poor undergraduate philosophy. The whole article reeks of Sharpe trying to be intellectual and failing dismally. I'm amazed it's been accepted for publication.

    More PACE trial data released

Thanks. I am slightly hopeful in that I think if they weren't even going to try, they would have said so immediately. But who knows?

Cognitive and behavioural responses to symptoms in adolescents with CFS: A case-control study nested within a cohort, 2019, Loades et al

Excellent, thanks for your work on this, Michiel. I should say my help was minimal and the credit is entirely Michiel's.

Trial By Error: A Plea to Fiona Godlee on a Familiar Topic

Interesting idea, but I don't think it's one I'll pursue just now. Though, as always, I remain open to help anyone who does.

Trial By Error: A Plea to Fiona Godlee on a Familiar Topic

Yeah, there was self-selection. If anyone is interested I did a 3-part blog on this trial, starting here. https://johnthejack.com/2017/07/02/the-smile-trial-part-1/ I'd forgotten, but I remember now that one adult patient told me that after being persuaded to take an LP course and then not...

The Body’s Clock Offers a Rhythmic Target to Viruses Veronique Greenwood Quanta Magazine 2019

I found this fascinating. I've always felt a rhythm to my illness and that my body was doing things at certain times of the day. I haven't done anything in the morning since 1991. https://www.quantamagazine.org/the-bodys-clock-offers-a-rhythmic-target-to-viruses-20190530/
