A general thread on the PACE trial!

What we have learnt from the research and our experience is that by embarking on an individualised programme of graded exercise or activity, people can manage symptoms, improve their health and engage in more activities than they were at the start of treatment. That is very interesting. Even if...

Cochrane Review: 'Exercise therapy for chronic fatigue syndrome' 2017, Larun et al. - Recent developments, 2018-19

Great post, thanks, Michiel. A common orthographic error made by many native speakers, including Michael Sharpe, is 'publically' rather than the correct 'publicly'.

Blaming the victim, all over again: Waddell and Aylward’s biopsychosocial (BPS) model of disability, 2016, Shakespeare et al

Yes, he was an observer for the DWP. He then left the DWP and was asked to stay on (as an observer, I think) in a personal capacity. Michael Sharpe: Mind, Medicine and Morals: A Tale of Two Illnesses (2019) BMJ blog - and published responses

It is of course a response to the Blease, Geraghty papers on epistemic injustice. Sharpe feels this need to respond to everything, so that if people who take a different view from him post a philosophical paper he has to do one of his own to counter.

Michael Sharpe: Mind, Medicine and Morals: A Tale of Two Illnesses (2019) BMJ blog - and published responses

They all claim that CBT-GET is effective in eg cancer, MS, but the evidence is just as awful as it is for ME. The whole thing is utter nonsense.

Michael Sharpe: Mind, Medicine and Morals: A Tale of Two Illnesses (2019) BMJ blog - and published responses

It's awful. It's poor undergraduate philosophy. The whole article reeks of Sharpe trying to be intellectual and failing dismally. I'm amazed it's been accepted for publication.

    More PACE trial data released

Thanks. I am slightly hopeful in that I think if they weren't even going to try, they would have said so immediately. But who knows?

QMUL is currently considering 'in good faith' my request for data aligned with the original release.

Cognitive and behavioural responses to symptoms in adolescents with CFS: A case-control study nested within a cohort, 2019, Loades et al

Excellent, thanks for your work on this, Michiel. I should say my help was minimal and the credit is entirely Michiel's.
