    Ketogenic diet

You've made a great start. I don't want to give medical advice ;), I just found for myself that getting that GKI to 2 or less made me feel much better, felt like my body could make the energy to function again. You said you were eating quite a few vegetables. Your vegetable choices are really...

    Ketogenic diet

@Trish very interesting, I don't have any SIBO symptoms but this theory is definitely plausible. Only during the first 2-3 years or so of my disease course did I have any ME-related GI sensitivities and issues, fortunately those slowly went away. I had IBS-like diarrhea, food sensitivities...

    Ketogenic diet

@Hutan was your glucose also low enough? I found that’s if my glucose was not 4.5 mmol/L or below even if my ketones were ok that I wasn’t noticing improvement. That’s why measuring both is important and GKI calc too. For me i feel this diet works best on my ME symptoms and overall feeling when...

Poll: Do your symptoms improve when you fast for 1-2 days?

@Forbin and @Keela Too wow my symptoms where the same. I didn’t have constant nausea although intermittently I did. Though a strong and immediate symptom after getting ME is that my appetite completely disappeared for 5 months or so. I also lost weight but I was already thin before so my body...

    Ketogenic diet

Hi @Marky - I’m doing very well, although I had a crash from Sunday night to Thursday morning after two weeks of a remission-like state as a result of the ketogenic diet. I’ve written more details about it in posts in this thread. The crash was a bit different from all my other crashes. Since...

Has anyone had homocysteine levels tested & subsequently treated and found any benefit?

@Cinders66 I’ve had my homocysteine tested a couple times and it was always between 6-7 which is good (I believe LabCorp’s reference normal is 4-15). So having good levels, at least for my ME, made no difference as I was as sick as ever with those levels.

Poll: Do your symptoms improve when you fast for 1-2 days?

Have you tried longer fasting and compared?

Poll: Do your symptoms improve when you fast for 1-2 days?

I purposely picked 1-2 days as a sweet spot educated guess. Too little time fasting might not be enough time to see symptoms improve, too much time fasting might cause ME symptoms to get worse.

Two new studies on physical inactivity and its effect on metabolic function

This is true, though it's interesting to possibly extrapolate from this whether severely reduced activity over a period of years might result in additional ME comorbidities, which possibly add additional symptoms.

Two new studies on physical inactivity and its effect on metabolic function

I honestly do not believe these studies are scaremongering, it’s just scientific research. This is how clinical research works in its early stages (where they do not have enough money to do larger, more well-designed studies). Small cohorts, shorter follow up times, study limitations, etc...

Two new studies on physical inactivity and its effect on metabolic function

I’m male and was 37 yo when I got ME. Like most PWME, I got PEM and everything else right away. There were a number of people on PR, men, women, different ages, that reported the same sudden muscle tone and subcutaneous tissue loss after getting ME.

Two new studies on physical inactivity and its effect on metabolic function

I for one experienced a sudden decrease in muscle mass and subcutaneous tissue after getting ME. I was an athlete and going to gym or other sport almost daily before getting ME. Resistance training would always result in muscle gain and improvements in tone right up until getting ME. Right...

Two new studies on physical inactivity and its effect on metabolic function

Two interesting new studies on how inactivity can have drastic metabolic consequences. Take a Vacation From Exercise? Your Body May Not Thank You This is by no means a suggestion that PWME should be more active, of course adaptive pacing is the best way to go! It just highlights one of the...

    Ketogenic diet

@alicec very interesting you mentioned that. There were a few people either here or on PR that replied to this thread saying they tried keto and stopped because their glucose levels kept going up.

    Ketogenic diet

Hi everyone I've come out of my crash since Thursday or so. Since I get this intense (literally uncontrollable) carb-craving hunger during the early part of a crash I ate carbs and fell out of ketosis during the crash. In the later part of my crashes it always goes away, so since Wednesday I...

Is PEM a crash? Is a crash PEM? Semantically distinct? Or distinct phenomena?

My question really is about the semantics of 'crash' and 'PEM'. I guess I used to use both these words somewhat interchangeably and wanted to ask PRers what they think. In my experience with ME, PEM, or a worsening of symptoms, happens after mental or physical overexertion and only when I have...

    Ketogenic diet

That is a very good point, though the first 3 years I was throwing the kitchen sink at the illness doing multiple protocols pretty much at the same time. There are a number of posts or threads on PR where we had the discussion on whether it’s better to try one thing at a time to see what works...

    Ketogenic diet

++ on the poisoned feeling. When I came down with ME and my family members were asking how it felt that is one of the exact words I used... it feels like my body is being poisoned and is painfully screaming at me to stop because it cannot take anymore.

    Ketogenic diet

It would be way too much of a coincidence that so many ME symptoms were going to disappear completely or improve significantly anyway, right at the same time that I was going into ketosis. At least for my ME disease pathology (and quite a few others), the changes that occurred not right at the...
