quote:
In a major boost to research on long COVID and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), the German government has announced that it will provide €500 million...
quote:
Although the global impact of COVID-19 has reduced since the peak of the pandemic, the virus continues to circulate widely, causing severe disease and death in high-risk groups. Around 6% of those infected develop Post COVID-19 Condition (also known as long COVID), with 15% of these...
Just adding the last paragraph in the article, which I thought was a bit clearer than the conclusion in the abstract:
In conclusion, excess mortality among the population aged 20–64 years was substantial and heterogeneous across Europe in 2020–2021. In the following years, point estimates and...
Trial by Error by David Tuller Journalist Simon Spichak on Lack of Focus on Post-Exertional Malaise in Long COVID Exercise Trials
quote:
According to the headline of a recent article in The Sick Times, “less than 20% of Long COVID trials involving exercise even mention post-exertional malaise.”...
Summary
Background
Data on the longer-term impact of post COVID-19 condition (PCC) on work-related functioning is limited, despite evidence on the persistence of PCC for years after infection. This study aimed to describe changes in work ability and sick leave associated with PCC up to three...
Cidrap: COVID patients have higher rates of depression, anxiety, headache, and fatigue before diagnosis, study suggests
quote:
The study authors emphasize that higher rates of depression, anxiety, headache, and fatigue before COVID infection don’t imply that they cause post-COVID symptoms...
The author suggests six efforts where the last one is:
Learning from other chronic conditions: It is reasonable to use the term chronic post-viral syndromes to capture the disease complexity and to help uncover the underlying cause of other life-limiting post-viral infections, such as Myalgic...
Abstract:

But they have tried. They have been in the media, to the Parliament, talked to the health authorities etc etc. It led to no changes in a system that doesn't want to change.
In order to persuade the medical establishment they need scientific proof. And that's what they're working on.
I recall they were more active in the public debate during the first years they worked on ME. But I guess they soon realised it took us nowhere. I too wish they were more visible in the media and am so grateful every time they appear, but it's like fighting windmills dealing with so much...
There is also a section about the Daratumumab study which I didn't see until now:
– Our hypothesis has long been that ME is an immune disease
The larger study that has recently been initiated (ResetME) uses daratumumab as the treatment, while placebo is the control.
Daratumumab is a...
A magazine published by the Norwegian Society of Graduate Technical and Scientific Professionals has a good article on ME. Jørn Tore Haugen tells of his story as ME sufferer since a flu in 2012. He follows research into ME closely and this is what gives him hope. He says the government must...
The journal of the Swedish medical Association has a great opinion piece on the harms of classifying and treating ME/CFS and Long Covid as functional disorders. The opinion piece is a reply to a previous opinion piece promoting this model.
This opinion piece is written by Sten Helmfrid...
One of the researchers from Tjenesten og MEg - Anne Kielland - has written an article for the online magazine Agenda about symbolic violence from public services. She uses examples from her research on the treatment of ME patients.

Scandinavian Journal of Public Health on Linkedin today:
What happens when we shift the lens on excess mortality?
A new study by Richard White, Anders Nygaard, Arne Søraas, Gunhild Alvik Nyborg challenges the conclusion that Norway saw no excess mortality in 2024—by using a different...
Medical Express Sequence of previous diseases may help predict risk of long COVID
- The study reinforces the need to understand health as a dynamic and cumulative process. Incorporating the temporal sequence of diseases alongside genetic information can improve prediction, care and prevention...
oh my @Hutan
And I thought tapping with ungloved and unwashed finger on the skin before inserting a needle (which happens more often than not) was bad..
The Swedish Covid Association has published photos from the conference, videos of the talks and provided summaries of them in Swedish on their website:
