Open You+ME gut bacteria study

Together with Ramsay 2021 Grantee Dr. David Esteban at Vassar College we are launching a study that will measure certain small molecules produced by bacteria in the gut of people with ME/CFS and control volunteers.

It has previously been shown that the community of bacteria in the gut (the microbiome) is different in people with ME/CFS so we expect the production of these important molecules may be different too.

Based on your survey responses, you might qualify for this study.

Participation includes:

Completing an online Informed Consent for Stool Sample Collection

Providing shipping information to receive an at-home Stool Sample Collection Kit

Collecting (1) stool sample using the at-home collection kit

Returning the sample by mail the same day as collection or the very next day

Congratulations! You've been selected to participate in the Gut Microbiome Study.

Our team is pleased to invite you to join this study led by Dr. David Esteban at Vassar College. In this study, researchers will be measuring certain small molecules produced by bacteria in the gut of people with ME/CFS and control volunteers to see if differences can be detected between these cohorts.

Participants in this study will be asked to collect a stool sample over one day between September-October.

Review the Study Instructions. Are you interested and able to participate?

Share changes in your COVID-19 status. In the last four weeks, have you had COVID-19, been in close contact to someone with COVID-19, or been in quarantine?

If YES, please let us know the date you received a positive test result AND/OR the date of exposure.

Share changes in your Antibiotic usage. In the past four weeks, have you started, continued, or completed a course of antibiotics?

If YES, please let us know the date you completed your course of antibiotics.

Take a look at your calendar. Our team will be collecting samples from September-October.

Please confirm your participation in this study by responding to registry@solvecfs.org with the following:

Week 1 (September 5th-9th);

Week 2 (September 12th-16th);

Week 3 (September 19th-23rd);

Week 4 (September 26th-30th);

Participants who send in their sample will automatically be entered in a raffle for a $50 gift card once their sample is received by our partners at Vassar.

I did a biomesight microbiome test last year and came out with the classic defiencies usually seen in ME patients. I also still hold the record (100% of all patients) for no less than 15 known baddies, no one has more than I do! Oddly otherwise my biome was OK, they certainly weren't concerned overall but it's the lack of butyrate producers that is often the concern. I have a year on probiotics I need to order another one and see if I had had a lasting impact or not.

Thanks for your willingness to participate in Solve's research. It is because of research study participation that we are able to explore diagnostics and therapeutics that may someday transform the diagnostic and treatment options for patients with ME/CFS and post-COVID conditions.
