Summary of the project:
Position Summary & Primary Responsibilities:

We are investigating the associations between psychiatric internalizing disorders and functional disorders (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and Irritable Bowel Syndrome at the phenotypic and genotypic levels, while at the same time clarifying the direction of causation between IDs and FDs. The person required will be jointly supervised by the project PIs and CoIs. He or she responsibilities will primarily involve the application of statistical methods to address the aims of the grant. Statistical expertise is therefore required in the areas of regression-based analyses, structural equation modeling of cross-sectional and longitudinal data, and the analysis of molecular data. Additional responsibilities include the dissemination of his/her findings in publications and at conferences. He/she will be required to meet once per week with VCU PI or VCU CO-Is to discuss progress towards aims. He/she will also participate in regular fortnightly group calls to discuss progress regarding statistical analysis, and the drafting and editing of manuscripts for publication.

For those interested, here is what is generally meant by this regrouping of " Internalizing disorders (ID) ", according to DSM-5 :

On the basis of the published findings of this common DSM-5 and ICD-11 analysis, it was demonstrated that clustering of disorders according to what has been termed internalizing and externalizing factors represents an empirically supported framework. Within both the internalizing group (representing disorders with prominent anxiety, depressive, and somatic symptoms) and the externalizing group (representing disorders with prominent impulsive, disruptive conduct, and substance use symptoms)
(Dimensional Approach to Diagnosis, Introduction, DSM-5)

More specifically, these disorders can be:

The internalizing disorders... include depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, trauma and stressor-related disorders, and dissociative disorders. Somatic disorders also frequently co-occur with the emotional or internalizing disorders, that include somatic symptom and related disorders, feeding and eating disorders, sleep-wake disorders, and sexual dysfunctions. Externalizing disorders include disruptive, impulse control, and conduct disorders, and the substance-related and addictive disorders
(The DSM‐5: Classification and criteria changes- World psychiatry, 2013 )
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/wps.20050

In this group of internalizing disorders (according to the psy literature that I have been able to glimpse !), the person experiences high levels of negative affects, has low self-esteem, and a predominant tendency to " internalize " his suffering and problems, among other things by behaviors of isolation and social withdrawal, even suicidal.

In short, another (future) research considering ME as a functional disorder and seeking to associate it with a mental health problem. :(

Either the position wasn't filled, or that jobs website doesn't update its content. Hopefully the former.
