Eric Gordon, MD speaking on the Challenge of Diagnosing the Complex Chronic Patient
Dr. Gordon will address the difficulties that patients presenting with complex chronic diseases have being heard by their doctors. We will correlate their subjective experience with specific laboratory tests that can guide us to helpful treatments.
Our goal is to remove impediments that prevent the innate wisdom of the body from overcoming illness and restoring good health. We’ll discuss the theoretical underpinnings of approaching patients who do not fit into neat diagnostics and the multiple triggers that may induce chronic illness, including mast cell activation, toxins, mold reactivity and toxicity, as well as the role of chronic infections.
We will highlight some of the diagnostic difficulties surrounding Lyme disease and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (now even more poorly named as Systemic Exercise Intolerance Syndrome), and discuss new treatment options.
Nafysa Parpia, ND speaking on Holistic Pain Management
In Dr. Parpia’s practice at Gordon Medical Associates, she sees many patients with pain caused by complex chronic illness. Treating this type of pain requires both addressing the cause, and providing relief during treatment. Some modalities can also be used to re-balance the musculoskeletal system post-treatment.
The first step will be to uncover the potential drivers of pain. The underlying reasons for pain can be diverse, and may include infections, especially tick-borne infections such as Lyme disease, Babesia, and the Ehrlichias, among others. Dr. Parpia will describe the different types of pain, and how those differences relate to the infections. She will also address injury-related pain, toxicity-related pain, and the role of inflammation.
