Question re PIP and UC

Unless you already hold a full paper licence, the cheapest option's a provisional driving licence.
I was unable to renew either my passport or drivers license so no longer have photo ID which is starting to be problematic. Officially you have to surrender your license if you have a condition which means you are unable to drive, which more severe ME/CFS is. So there may be issues there. Expired passports count for a period but I’m not sure how long. I did have a Blue Badge which sometimes counts, but as it’s PIP which enabled that there’s a circular element there.

The issue of ID for disabled/housebound people can be a significant one. The majority or people have either a passport or drivers license but if you don’t and cannot get them things currently become tricky.

I’d second the recommendation about benefits and work, their resources are very useful. Or if you’re able, making use of local CAB or other local organisations/charities like Scope who often have people dedicated to helping people make claims.

This may be useful as an alternative photo ID, it looks as of they can verify with a referee such as a GP surgery or social worker. I may look into this a bit more although they seem to only last 3 years

The gov.uk page suggests that it's not acceptable for online ID verification:

If Saz can attend a centre for a face to face appointment, it's possible they'll accept evidence from a wider range of documents.
