MATT MEETS BRAVE CONSTITUENT PENALISED BY GOVERNMENT ASSESSMENT SYSTEM

"A chronic and debilitating condition which, to the untrained eye, renders the sufferer as looking 'normal' has been the subject of a real battle between one of Matt Rodda's constituents and the Government benefits agencies. Sadly, however, cases like this are not uncommon."

"Myalgic Encephalomyelitis sufferer Charis contacted Matt's office following a benefits assessment which ruled her fit for work, in spite of conclusive medical and clinical evidence to the contrary from her GP and other specialists. She has not received any benefit payments for over a year, though counts herself as fortunate as she lives at home with her parents. Other sufferers, living alone, may not be so fortunate and these measures could push them deeper into poverty, depression and debt."

"Charis agreed to share her experience and be filmed for a BBC documentary 'Inside Out', which is due for transmission in early Spring."

This in itself is telling. Once a PwME has been ground into the dirt so much by the system, some of them will inevitably also suffer from consequential depression. The medical profession from then on will only see the depression, and the vicious circle then becomes fully established.

Hopefully it will be a good report and on BBC as well. Inside Out is a programme that does regional news stories in a bit more length 30 minutes if it is the whole programme. But it means the story is only shown in that region. Although in a way I think MPs take more notice about regional news and I think it is a good medium for people looking to get ME messages out. Away from the London media bubble that SMC has its claws into. I think the folks in Scotland (yes I know you’re not a region) are doing really well with media there. East Anglia have done some good coverage as well. Let’s hope other areas start to pick it up.

needs info from people who have had PIP assessments where the Assessor clearly has an inaccurate view of ME, no idea about PEM etc.
I presume this is for the Forward ME Group meeting tomorrow with Countess of Mar, where the main Medical Guy from Capita will be questioned about this.
Just as relevant if you have been assessed by ATOS.

Please share with whoever you think might have info.

Send info re this to general contact address at MEA. @Andy or @Sly Saint or @Trish or anyone else who knows what they are doing please highlight this.
Have posted on PR, as Helly the elephant has been waiting ages for her tribunal, then told just before it that the lift is out of order.

It's more than the lift that is out of order.

She has waited far too long, even for an elephant.
