Some parents apparently believe that the bleach is removing parasites from their children, but, rather horrendously, it is probably destroyed tissue they are seeing in the enemas,

There is a petition on Change.org asking the UK Minister for Health to ban sales of autism 'cures'. The petition has been going for a while, but looks to be getting a boost thanks to the article,

Anyone advocating these "treatments" should be in prison. And anyone stupid enough to force their children to ingest bleach or turpentine shouldn't be parents.

Dear god, the state takes children away from parents because they believe ME/CFS lies, these are the parents who should be losing their children :emoji_face_palm:

And the scam continues, with a slight twist, as they are now asking for money to free the Felon, on probation, who once sold MMS.

I have been watching a film about Bernie Madoff, who scammed 4,800 people out of $64.8 Billion Dollars!

Scamming is Big Business! Buyers Beware!

Sadly, there's a petition supporting Daniel Smith, the felon in question, on Change.org, which has apparently been accepted by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in the US . The top comment on the petition seems to sum up the problem as far as the supporters go,
People using this stuff are making themselves good contenders for the Darwin Award,

Yeah, people offing themselves is one thing, but doing it to their kids is inexcusable

Yes, it’s all the FDA’s and Pharma’s fault! That’s sort like saying, “The devil made me do it!”

Agreed, you would think that being told they're giving their children something harmful and potentially fatal would make any parent think twice, no matter how desperate.

ETA And of course they should've looked into it in the first place.

"Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS)" ... how do people not see the word in there that is a ginormous red flag?

The best part is how many diseases it can cure, believers don't want to realize that each disease has a different cause and mechanism, nothing can cure them all simultaneously. In the end it seems to be about conspiracy theories (its not mainstream because its being suppressed), belief (no facts needed if you believe) and suspension of rational thought (why do we need to know how to fix something or even what is actually wrong, mr charismatic and intuitive snake oil salesman is enough evidence).

But what else would you expect from a 'miracle' cure, especially one promoted by the likes of Jim Humble ...
It even seems to be his real name!

Thats what i meant by suspension of rational thought
Perhaps the biggest flaw in education is the failure to teach rational thought and its importance (and history), how to identify irrationality and the difference between science and (gameable) intuition.

You can only teach rational thought to a degree. There will always be plenty of people prone to believe complete bullsh*t, especially when it is spun by those gifted at it.

Thats why you start early, teach children how to discern bullshit and society will benefit. It won't be 100% but it will do far better then we are today. Any improvement is useful but if we can teach math we can teach wisdom (at least how to identify alternative facts). People sometimes refuse to use math, it has not stopped it being taught in schools. Education provides tools, we can't guarantee everyone will use those tools but if they are not taught then we are counting on luck that they are learned elsewhere. I'm not a fan of luck.

I agree. Sorry Descartes, we're not rational beings and never will be. We're driven by emotion and belief. We are quite good at using our rational capbilities to support our emotionally motivated beliefs. But that's not really the same thing, is it?

You can't educate people to be rational, because its not reasonable to expect to fundamentally change how the human mind works. All you can do is teach skills that might help people to manage the worst excesses of human judgement - sometimes, in some situations.

We can also all try to help one another by calling each other on our bullshit.

We might all be irrational in our own silly ways, but so long as we're aware of this, and try to make room for debate and criticism with a wide range of people we can protect ourselves from going too far wrong).

PS: Until recently I'd thought "Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS)" was like "Myhill's Magic Minerals", which is just Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Zinc, etc.

We have the ability to be rational. We can choose to use it if we want to. Teaching people how to weed out laughable obvious lies is not an impossible task.

Ah - this at least is easily tested.

I'm taking a small risk here, but being turned into a pillar of salt seems like a pretty benign and merciful way to go, and the old lightning strike routine, at least the pair of smoking shoes left behind has comedic value.

So....testing....I'd suggest an industrial mincing machine, and the output is fed to polar bears (polar bears are having a hard time these days and need every calorie they can get), and penguins i.e. at opposite ends of the planet.

As a god, whilst this may be inconvenient, and possibly a tad irritating, it shouldn't harm him in the slightest, so is completely ethical, and then everyone would know.

    Easily tested.

Do alien gods even have human rights?

Of course if he's not a god, if he's just mad, or a con man..........but he's a god, and as a god, he should know, being a billion years old this probably wouldn't be his first trip through a mincing machine.
