Most statin problems caused by mysterious 'nocebo effect', study suggests

Swallowing a pill isn't exactly the same as chewing food, which has a taste and is much more noticeable in your mouth.

Also I would say that association would be strongest with nausea, vomiting and similar GI effects.

But theoretically you could have a point, but then it would extend not just to this drug, but the after effects of tablets in general, which would be interesting though I suspect if it was as large as the effect seen in this trial, it would be talked about more.

A review of the data could check whether there were order effects like you suggest.

Maybe, but they knew that they were on a trial featuring either placebo or the drug that they'd discontinued due to side-effects. It might not be an issue, but it could still be a mistake to assume the results here are the same as what would be seen from people starting statins.

just to add asking people to fill in a pain symptom form every day is not the smartest thing to do since many people of a certain age start getting various symptoms just from natural wear and tear or overdoing stuff from gardening to painting and decorating moving furniture all the usual life stuff i would take this with a large pinch of salt .also is the empty bottle stuff supposed to reflect usual care of the medical establishment for complex symptoms .
