The science is a bit beyond me today but I do know about Rosiglitazone. It is the drug Avandia which was banned because of the high rate of deaths from its use.

The drug Pioglitazone, known as Actos, is still in use. They are called TZD drugs and they lower blood sugar by using bone stem cells to make fat cells which store the sugar. Unfortunately this leads to weight gain and to osteoporosis.

I read a research paper (which might have been avandia) where the conclusion was that the drug was generally well tolerated except for the risk of sudden death!
