Jen Brea's #UnrestPBS twitter chat (numerous guests)

In the film Ricky Gervais is portrayed as the bully that he is, which I'm sure will go down very well with all the Hollywood types who had to put up with him hosting the Golden Globes four times. A card up our sleeves at the Oscars?

I wish you all the best with your cause.

And goodbye.

This is much appreciated, Ricky. I think the challenge is that your audience might not be in on the joke. We all know and agree that AIDS, cancer, famine, and the holocaust are serious.

Not so fast, take some responsibility here.

Great reply, Jen Brea's as sharp as a knife.

Hmmm, I'd be massively surprised if he did actually "understand the true gravity of the disease". Personally not convinced by that.

@Andy, my view is he probably didn't when the made the joke about ME in his routine, which was quite a few years ago now, but as I believe many people with ME have contacted him since that joke he probably is aware now. However, I don't think he will ever apologise, but at least he may be more aware of the true debilitating nature of ME now. I think Jen Brea's comment illustrates perfectly why his joke was not equivalent to making jokes about other illnesses or the Holocaust where it is general knowledge they are serious conditions and a heinous, terrible event in history.
