How to find a lightweight duvet?

After sleepless nights form being too hot and suffering pain from the weight of the duvet I eventually purchased a 2.5 tog bamboo duvet. It's heavenly. I use it all year round, I just use a bedspread on top for the cooler months. Expensive but worth it for the comfort.

Interesting - do you live in the UK, @Jan, if you don't mind me asking? I'm wondering how you survive with such a low-tog duvet!

I'm a huge fan of bamboo socks - can't go back to cotton now.

Yes I'm in the UK. I was really surprised that the duvet keeps me warm enough most of the year, I thought I'd need to use a different one for winter. It wouldn't be enough without my bedspread, which is quilted cotton so has a bit of weight to it.

I bought it with the intention of just using it in summer, I would advise the warmer one for cold winters though, it wouldn't be enough on it's own.

I imagine down would be the lightest material for a given tog rating. Have you ever been to www.soakandsleep.com? They have always been excellent when I’ve ordered from them and they might be able to help you with weights if you ask them.

Thanks! I just went over there and asked for their advice. Unfortunately, their lightest microfibre duvet (to avoid allergies) is heavier than the one I already have (but at least they were able to find its weight for me!).

Interesting that the bamboo duvet has weights: "The 2.5 Tog weight is a super light 180grm2, with the 9 tog weighing 430grm2."

That's grams per metre squared, presumably, so a double duvet (2m x 2m) would be 4 sq m and the 2.5 tog duvet would be 760g and the 9 tog would be 1720g, for a total of 2480g if used together. £145 and £170, respectively, so they're not cheap, but if they last ten years, then per-year...

By comparison, the 9 + 4.5 tog John Lewis breathable microfibre duvet is £140, but I don't know what it weighs. Just phoned customer services and they're going to get back to me...

My presumably bog-standard current microfibre 9 + 4.5 tog duvet is 3.3kg, for comparison.
