Foot pain associated with cold

I have something really strange that has been happening for quite a few years and that is once in bed for the night and I get hot and move my feet out of bedding to the cool air I suddenly get a pain like ache in my feet and quickly put my feet back under the bedding. It happens really quick.

It is strange that it only happens once in bed at night. Right now it is afternoon and I am lying on top of the bed and my feet are fine barefoot.

I will check with my GP but I am wondering whether it is a blood circulation thing or could it be a neuropathy? Anyone else experience this. I don't know what to make of it and I should finally go and see the doctor about it. Anyone recognize similar experience?
 
I get that problem sometimes. In my case it is cramp, and it happens when my feet get cold soon after I get into bed. I use a hot water bottle about 9 or 10 months of the year. And if summer is very mild cool I might use one all year, in the hope of keeping the cramp away.

In contrast I get the problem of pain in my toes from warmth. It is most frequent getting into a hot bath, when my toes register the heat as pain, when the rest of my body just registers it as heat. Less commonly I have the same experience of going from the cold into a warm room where the pain is disproportionate to the actual change of temperature. I generally wear scandals even in cold weather. I have other issues with temperature too, including being too cold or too hot triggering PEM.

I wonder if some temperature regulation issues are pretty common in most people with ME, even though they vary so much between individuals.
 
I get ongoing pain in my feet, and to an extent lower legs this time of year (winter). I wear 2 - 3 pairs of socks trying to deal with it + started inserting a woollen/heat reflective shoe insert in-between 2 pairs of socks to help. Also wear leggings 24/7 in winter to try to keep my legs warm, otherwise it would be constant misery.

I have to overheat my bed with electric blanket before I get in at night. If I can 'overheat' my legs / feet from the start I've a much better chance of them not going into that cold spasm which takes ages to resolve and heat up... Once I feel the heat going through them and pain gone in my toes, after a few minutes I can turn it off. The hard part is the rest of me overheating & trying to juggle warming / not overheating various parts of me.
