e-coli infection and leaky gut

The problem is that it can be very difficult to know when the infection has been cleared.
I hadn't appreciated this. When I have (relatively often) had to go into hospital with cellulitis, they seem to take the "Victorian engineering" approach, and wait until things look to have sorted themselves out but then just keep filling me full of antibiotics for a while afterwords anyway, just to be sure. I thought that was why you had to keep taking antibiotics well after the symptoms (and maybe biomarkers?) disappeared. Is that not always the case then?

Yes, symptom clearance is no guarantee of bacterial clearance with an abscess so treatment needs to continue. The problem is in knowing how long for. And long courses of powerful antibiotics have potential complications like pseudomembranous colitis. So it is a difficult judgment.

I think Graham should be asked before anyone starts contacting other doctors.

His wife Kathy emailed me asking about Prof Carding, but I explained that he was an academic, not clinician.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I will pass it on with love and Best Wishes from us at S4ME.

Fortunately there are a couple of people from the group, who live nearby and are able to drop off things he needs etc.
Although I am part of the group I actually live about an hour away! Such is the attraction of Graham and the rest of them.
