I thought it would be interesting to see which studies were included in the spending on ME in Dinenage's reply to Carol Monaghan's written question.

I asked:

The Answer states the NIH funding by the Biomedical Research Centres and Units was as
follows:
2014-15 280,442; 2015-16 295,626; 2016-17 130,958.
Please state the following:
1. The names of the trials included in the £280,442 figure for 2014-15.
2. The names of the trials included in the £295,626 figure for 2015-16.
3. The names of the trials included in the £130,958 figure for 2016-17.
The Answer also states that the NIHR Clinical Research Network provided infrastructure for
a number of trials and the expenditure was as follows:
2014-15 134,769; 2015-16 125,176; 2016-17 82,866
Please state the following:
4. The names of the trials included in the £134,769 figure for 2014-15.
5. The names of the trials included in the £125,176 figure for 2015-16.
6. The names of the trials included in the £82,866 figure for 2016-17

Good idea. Here is the question:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how much funding from the public purse he plans to allocate to biomedical research into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis in the current financial year.

I did first email the DoH and they directed me to the NIHR, so I did an FOI to the NIHR... which had to go through the DoH.

I have also asked the MRC for the studies they funded and am expecting a reply within a week.

Is there any way of matching this information with individuals actually carrying out these studies, and whether any has led to publication?

1. There may be. I suppose PubMed may be a good place to start.

I asked the same questions to the MRC. They responded today saying they have now updated their website with that information.

They haven't actually funded much. Two are about 'SWS'. I'm not sure what that is. Another one is 'A Unified Mechanism for Functional Neurological Symptoms' which doesn't actually sound 'biomedical'.

Seems that it's Slow Wave Sleep, from a quick Google. First example I found, Can enhancing SWS improve daytime function in patients with CFS?

Another one is 'A Unified Mechanism for Functional Neurological Symptoms' which doesn't actually sound 'biomedical'.

We've discussed this one at length in a number of threads on the forum and it's biomedical status is, to say the least, questionable.
