Listen to this A&E doctor on the threat posed by Covid-19
(WARNING: It's very long, but the most important bit is early on)

And please get the message out there:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0877mb2

In a matter of weeks, we risk a situation where there may be 8 patients needing each respirator - and 7 won't be able to get one. We need to follow the advice about social distancing and keeping away from other people in public.

Yes this is excellent. It makes the point that even younger, healthy people are not invincible to this virus and are at significant risk of severe illness and death. If more people understand this then we will see better compliance of social distancing/isolation practices, which is urgently needed. I hope people will share the video and spread the message.

    So young :(

The doctor's description of ICU Covid-19 patients is absolutely horrendous.

Well, they aren't coming to the ICU for nothing. I've stopped reading messages like this, while adhering to social distancing/self isolation. The thing with reading about ICU is, the worst cases end up there. So it's always gonna paint a pretty grim picture.

It’s fear, it’s exhaustion, it’s grief. Most of the people working in this #pandemic never signed up for this. They were not trained for it, not professionally and even less mentally.

American #healthcareproviders are not used to making choices due to scarcity, and now, as our #PPE supply dwindles and ventilators are becoming scarce for our patients, we are forced to make decisions that will either end the life of a patient or our own.

Mucous is what we cough up when we have chest infection. If you are unable to cough or are ventilated you need help to remove secretions.

If a thick plug of mucous is blocking one of the air passages in the bronchial tree of the lungs, it prevents oxygen getting to the area of the lung where it can be transferred into the bloodstream.

It's over 30 years since I worked in respiratory care and ICU & I'm brain fogged so someone else might explain it better. I changed career over a decade ago so my anatomy and physiology is a bit rusty.
