David Tuller: Trial By Error: My Most Recent Exchange with Bristol

    For what it's worth, my approach would be as follows:

    I would separate the information-seeking from the complaints.

    For the information, I would contact the REC/HRA and explain that I had requested the info from both authorities and that both say they do not have it. Could they please help?

    For the complaint, even though the VC has complained to Berkeley, I would write to the VC research and make a formal complaint of research misconduct stating which part of the UoB ethical code has been breached.

    I would be (almost overly) polite, express no opinion and thank them for their help.

    If the VC doesn't respond then I would move up the chain to the University chancellor, but it has to go step by step.

    Up to you, of course, feel free to ignore.
