This one is new to me: "Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome". According to the Mayo Clinic website, CECS is "an exercise-induced muscle and nerve condition that causes pain, swelling and sometimes disability in the affected muscles of your legs or arms"
While this should probably go in a "Missed Diagnosis" section thread, it doesn't really fit any of the existing categories. So I'll put it here.

In summary, for 2 years, a California high school track star (John Hagerman) had intense pain after every race.
Eventually, a sports medicine doctor figured it out.
So, a happy ending for Hagerman after 2 years of frustrating misdiagnoses.

In summary, for 2 years, a California high school track star (John Hagerman) had intense pain after every race.
Merced Sun-Star said:"It was frustrating because we didn’t know what the problem was,” Hagerman said. “I saw so many doctors. They would say, ‘Oh, you need to stretch more,’ or ‘Oh, you need to hydrate.’ I was able to jog 8 to 10 miles fine, but when I tried to run fast my legs would cease up. I would have this debilitating pain after running. It would last for 5 to 10 minutes.
Eventually, a sports medicine doctor figured it out.
Merced Sun-Star said:“He’s one of the doctors who works with the San Francisco 49ers,” Tim Hagerman said. “He’s the best of the best. He did an MRI and some blood tests. He started asking about our family history. From there he was able to diagnose him. He basically said John can stop running competitively or he can have the surgery.”
Merced Sun-Star said:After having the surgeries over the summer, John Hagerman was running again in September and able to finish the second half of the cross country season.
So, a happy ending for Hagerman after 2 years of frustrating misdiagnoses.
