I think he was criticizing the DSM5 revision/renewal (I can't find the right word) 10yrs ago about grief and how the DSM5 is pathologizing normal reactions to inevitable life events.

I hope he keeps on watching/being outspoken about Post covid and ME.

Can you explain in what way?

He's always said that all unexplained symptoms are not psychiatric, but when he talked about ME/CFS, he often added that CBT could be a great help, and some people benefited from it.

I am not convinced by this. Maybe he gets it and maybe he is genuine, but I am fairly sure the line about not dismissing patients because it's all the head, is straight out of the BPS handbook.

I am convinced because a PACE-style BPS person would never say CFS is a medical condition. PACE-style BPS wants to take patients out of medical care into their own care. He has taken a clear side. He is saying this is a job for doctors and they need to figure it out. That's also why he says research is needed.

I think he got it years ago. He's a smart cookie. Not all psychiatrists are clueless.

We as patients have discussed at times how we could really use another outbreak so it could be properly studied. This is our first chance in a long while.
