Adverse Childhood events are a current focus.

Defining and measuring "trauma" is a precursor for much theorizing about its correlation and impact on childhood mental health and chronic health conditions - just consider the recent Chalder papers to see the fishing expedition that is becoming common place.

In Scotland these scores feed into GIRFEC policy ( get it right for every child) which can prove an ACE in itself should your child have a poorly understood illness.

Janes Coyne has a blogpost on the subject which " explains" the scale.

Perhaps this goes some way to explain the direction of travel in some disciplines.
