    Auto-brewery syndrome linked to ME?

Auto-Brewery Syndrome, Painter et al, 19 Jan 2023 Only two inline citations are given after that paragraph, and only one of them mentions fatigue, but says "chronic fatigue", not "chronic fatigue syndrome". I assume they made a mistake writing CFS. A news article about auto-brewery syndrome...

    Modern environmental factors

Potential links to cholinesterase-inhibiting chemicals in both gulf war illness and psychiatric disorders. Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor exposures as an initiating factor in the development of Gulf War Illness, a chronic neuroimmune disorder in deployed veterans, Michalovicz et al, July 2020...

READ FIRST: Welcome to the MEpedia subforum!

Maybe try toggling "Ignore thread" on then back off if you haven't already. Otherwise, I'd post about it in the Technical Support forum.

The economist: Many mental health conditions have bodily triggers

Hey, this sounds familiar. Gulf War and Health: Volume 8: Update of Health Effects of Serving in the Gulf War. 2010

The economist: Many mental health conditions have bodily triggers

I agree that these things likely play huge roles in classic mental illnesses. Though I don't think one can be confident that there is not a very large contributing biological factor in all these diseases that could potentially prevent these societal factors from causing such enormous damage...

Idea for machine learning model to track fatigue accurately

Just wanted to add a potential other marker, which is close to invisible without technology, like HRV and minor changes in facial expression: eye movements. I bet if I had one of those devices to record eye movements every day, there would be significant patterns that correlate to fatigue and...

Navigating the medical system as a beginner with ME

Thank you! I tried searching for groups that included "Ohio" but there were way too many to search through that were not relevant.

Navigating the medical system as a beginner with ME

Thanks, he does seem fairly knowledgeable. Unfortunately, I'm in central Ohio, and there's the waitlist, and my insurance probably wouldn't cover it. But maybe I'll see if his office has any recommendations.

Navigating the medical system as a beginner with ME

Is this someone known to treat ME patients? I see one long COVID in the reviews. [Edit: 2 long covid mentions.] Those reviews seem suspiciously good. 209 reviews and all 5 stars. They make him sound like one of the best humans to exist. [Edit: there are a couple negative ones.] Thanks. I...

    Animal research for ME

Yeah, I'm not a fan of food animals being treated inhumanely either. One organization I think is doing great work in this field is the Humane Slaughter Association, and I believe has had some big wins in changing industry in Europe. Though I think they only deal with farm animal slaughter, not...

Navigating the medical system as a beginner with ME

Thanks! Yep, I fit the criteria to a tee. Though I didn't know there's a rule for "not lifelong". Aren't there people who have had ME/CFS all their life? I do feel like I had mildish mental fatigue issues my whole life, but the intense physical fatigue and PEM came suddenly when I was 18...

Navigating the medical system as a beginner with ME

Yes, but my insurance isn't great, so I don't know if there's a lot of options. I have combo Medicaid + Medicare. Though I might be losing the Medicaid soon as I've been building up my savings and might be over the resource limit. Thinking of buying private insurance if that happens.

Navigating the medical system as a beginner with ME

I just don't socialize much and don't have a real life community I can get recommendations from.

Navigating the medical system as a beginner with ME

Yeah, I was thinking that, but I don't know how to present this long document at an appointment and not look like a know it all "WebMD patient". And, what, am I supposed to ask her to read it then and there? Hope she looks at it later?

Navigating the medical system as a beginner with ME

I'll see if there's any FB groups, thanks. Ugh, yes, I have bad social anxiety, and I hate the thought of trying to push back against doctors talking like this. I was talking to my former psychiatrist at one point, telling him one of the things I'm most excited to do when I have more energy...

Navigating the medical system as a beginner with ME

I'm planning to go see a doctor for the first time where I actually bring up ME/CFS. Up till now, I've seen probably over 10 psychiatrists over the past 15 years to treat anxiety and depression, and tried dozens of medications, none of which helped, one of which ruined my life. A couple years...

The economist: Many mental health conditions have bodily triggers

I was just thinking a couple days ago: when will we see a huge push from the depression and anxiety communities to treat these things like biological disorders, in the way the ME community has impressively been doing? Social anxiety affects 7% of the US population, and a few studies* have found...

USA: NIH National Institutes of Health news - latest ME/CFS webinar 14 Jan 2025

My takeaway after reading Health Rising, this sicktimes blog, and listening/watching half the symposium so far: the main value in this study seems to be trying to test as much as possible. People talk about them wasting money, not enough participants, not severe enough, not enough...
