Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I totally agree. A combination of that style plus the bleach type product ones that showed how contagion spreads invisibly using paint etc.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

This is the official Public Health England tracker site (mobile version). https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/ae5dda8f86814ae99dde905d2a9070ae What I still don't understand is that there are numerous regions who are still way down in single digits of reported cases. The bulk...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

If you put the @ at the very beginning of the message then it will only be seen by that recipient. If you put it in the body of the message (a fullstop before the @ serves this purpose in the simplest way) then it is viewable to all. (I think!) Putting it at the end makes it viewable to all too.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Saw this posted as a response to the Imperial report. Sorry it's just a screenshot but the title should be searchable. In fact I found it to make it easier https://necsi.edu/review-of-ferguson-et-al-impact-of-non-pharmaceutical-interventions

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

If anyone has read it, this is reminding me of the Redeker Plan in the book World War Z which is very different to the film. The architect of that had to go into hiding after because so many people hated what he had done. Yes, it's fiction and yes, it's about zombies but it still feels relevant.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Yes, I've been thinking exactly this. It also struck me today that the 'strategy' of herd immunity might have a lot to do with the demographic of those affected. To paraphrase a certain journalist (although I know he's issued a mealy-mouthed retraction of sorts) a 'cull' of the elderly and...

    L-carnitine, tryptophane and d-ribose

I tried L-Carnitine and didn't notice any difference.

'Pacing for people with M.E.' Action for ME booklet - revised and updated January 2020.

Couldn't agree more. It's such a complicated and often central part of the disease, it can't just be dealt with in a few lines of generic advice. Poor sleep advice has made people's illness much worse. I also tried to curtail my daytime sleep in the early stages and it was awful. I know their...

UK Genome Wide Association Study (GWAS) project - draft website goes live, feedback sought on recruitment plan, and updates

Mark Kermode has previously mentioned on his film review radio show that he has known people with M.E. and is very sympathetic. He gave Unrest a good review. He has more than 500k followers including many other celebrities so he might be a good choice to ask to advertise the study if that route...

How to explain the 'fatigue' of ME/CFS to non-sufferers - comparisons they could understand

I totally agree, just being exhausted 'normally' is more like a desperate desire to be able to sleep, anywhere and anyhow and can be an almost comfortable feeling. I once fell asleep in a large walk-in dog kennel when on night call at vet school because the bedding was comfy and heated. I have...

The Benefits of Oral Rehydration on Orthostatic Intolerance in Children with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (2019) Marvin S Medow, et al

I think there are a lot of people out there who are very isolated from their doctors/medical professionals who may just try things out themselves. I am speaking from a UK perspective in this. Given that ORS can be bought in shops etc they may be seen as a benign thing. My point about salt is...

The Benefits of Oral Rehydration on Orthostatic Intolerance in Children with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (2019) Marvin S Medow, et al

Yes, completely. Current POTS advice is to 'increase salt intake' which is so vague and has great potential to do harm. There definitely needs to be studies of ideal concentrations/solutions. This goes back to the urine studies, it is worth simultaneously checking excretion products to see if...

The Benefits of Oral Rehydration on Orthostatic Intolerance in Children with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (2019) Marvin S Medow, et al

A follow up looking at a recommended regime would be a good step. Comparing strategies of frequent, regular intake vs larger more separated doses. As @rvallee said, patients have to figure this out for themselves but if this became official recommended guidance by gp's in my case I would have...

    Does PEM contribute to POTS?

I've added some screenshots to explain. Forgive my scrawling over them, it was so I would remember why I kept it! It probably still counts as POTS but not as severe, which seems odd given how ill I was on that day. The green lines mean >108bpm.

    Does PEM contribute to POTS?

My answer is yes and no. Which isn't very helpful I know. I have been using a Garmin wrist HR monitor for a year now and have noticed that when I have severe PEM (what I call flu-y days, which are usually the result of overdoing it), I feel unbelievably ill but my POTS is improved. I rarely...

Abnormalities in the urine of people with ME/CFS? A clinician asks for feedback

Some people can't smell ketones because of their genetics. We were taught at university not to place too much emphasis on smelling ketones as an aid to diagnose diabetic ketoacidosis because of that. The same goes for pear drop type sweets too - some people don't register the smell.

    Eye fatigue

If part of it is a kind of throbbing ache you can buy cheap cool pack eye masks from places like ebay. They really helped me when it was at it's worst. I second all Trish's suggestions re screens too. I enlarge the text on ebooks to ridiculous levels as well.

    The "chronic brucellosis" papers.

I've not been tested for that but I have been bitten/scratched by an awful lot of cats... ETA: My symptoms didn't fit with Bartonella infection.

    The "chronic brucellosis" papers.

I got tested for Brucellosis when I first got ill because I was a vet working with large animals. It was negative thankfully.

"Positive Health Statement" - Job Centre Plus

Precisely, I was very lucky that at my ESA assessment last year I had a nurse who immediately told me she knew about M.E. and didn't need to laboriously verify what I had written on my form. She also told me that I should have been granted the home visit I asked for and was refused. This was a...
