New poor Guardian article "ME and the perils of internet activism" 28th July 2019

Someone who carries all those initials after the MD, to me, is suspicious.

Survey of activity pacing across healthcare professionals informs a new activity pacing framework for chronic pain/fatigue, 2019, Antcliff et al

Why is it assumed by medical people that the patient is too dumb to figure out how much she is able to do and what she should refrain from doing? What happened to the concept of learning from patients or is that only done in certain types of nursing research. Why is it that medical people...

    Non-Allergic Rhinitis

I have been diagnosed with non-allergic rhinitis. I am to do sinus rinses followed by a nasal steroid twice a day. If I don't, or if I have a cold virus, I can get a lot of vertigo, which ain't fun. I also had shortness of breath due to the bronchi reacting to the post nasal drip, I suppose...

The Canadian Chronic Pain Task force report

The overly broad generalizations about psych therapies being so direly useful--is just baked rehash-trash. Sure, some people, when just diagnosed, need to try to relax a little when they have chronic pain. But perhaps sessions with an occupational therapist would be more useful. Of course...

Noise cancelling headphones! Oh Joy! (and other ways to block sound)

Mute it a little, perhaps lower the high-pitch a little. It's the gestalt of the tinnitus plus ambient noise that both the ear plugs and noise cancelers work on. Don't know how others w/tinnitus would say.

Noise cancelling headphones! Oh Joy! (and other ways to block sound)

I use ear plugs AND Bose noise canceling headphone all of the time, except when I'm out driving. At stores, I just use ear plugs. I have to use both because I have tinnitus as well as noise sensitivity. And despite these measures, noises still bother me. I suppose my brain interprets apartment...

    Well-known, famous people with fibromyalgia

If by treatable you mean there are approved drugs that do some a little improvement, then sure, it's more treatable. The prognosis for fibromyaglia patients (by Dr. Robert Bennett, of U-Oregon and who had thousands of fibro patients and who discovered the growth hormone deficiency due to sleep...

Nature - News feature: Does psychology have a conflict-of-interest problem?, 2019, Tom Chivers

If Maryanne gets the nomination, I am leaving this nation. Would England take me back after a 410 year absence?

Medically Documenting Disability in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) cases May 2019 Comerford & Podell

Excellent, written by disability lawyers. For USA socials security disability and private disability insurance claims. Section on the adult and the need to have a daily written journal of ME effect on activity by the ME patient--this is crucial. Well done!

Altered microbiome composition in individuals with fibromyalgia, 2019, Minerbi et al.

I dropped out (never sent in specimens) out of Harvard's Nurses Health Study of gut microbiome in a cohort of nurses. They did have a dietary recall element of test (which I found quite unreliable and complained in the past as to its accuracy, but they assured me that it is okay). So at least...

Energy Conservation Management for People With Multiple Sclerosis–Related Fatigue: Who Benefits? (Blikman et al, 2019)

Once again this illustrates the psych researchers world: feeling superior to sufferers and lacking empathy and well as IQ. This is why I can't bring myself to read any more of their mindfu****g tripe.

    PENE crash and muscle pain

I have moderate-sever fibro with a mild level of PEM (30-35% normal function), probably no ME/CFS diagnosis because I lack the immunologic symptoms such as swollen lymph glands and fever. Whatever the trigger for my pain-exhaustion, if it is bad enough, every sense is heightened and at least...

Response to Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid in ME and Fibromyalgia, 2015, Regland et al

Small retrospective study. No double-blind placebo control. And what is the hypothesis (if any) for a beneficial outcome? What would the theory be? No labs (such as iron status, anemia, pernicious anemia, low folate) presented in the above abstract. So why would it work unless... there's a...

    Aripiprazole - Abilify

I was prescribed Risperdal, an anti-psychotic, for a sub-mania condition which was due to, a shrink told me, probably a reaction to tapering too fast off an SRI anti-depressant. Anyway, I took Risperdal for two to three nights and noticed already the insatiable appetite problem but also, a...

Aptinyx stock soars on positive Phase 2 results for its fibromyalgia treatment, June 10, 2019

Yeah, I've got my eye on this drug development for fibro. But who knows. Phase II is just a small human sample trying to get the dosage right. The company is seeking money (I think) for the huge cost of a multi-center Phase III trial. Fingers crossed.

Anger rumination mediates differences between fibromyalgia patients and healthy controls..., 2019, Toussaint et al

anger ruminations in fibromyalgia https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/pmh.1445 My personal experience with fibro is that the pain is quite extreme and makes me irritable in many ways. When the pain is sometimes relieved by an opioid, I am my normal self--not "angry." Again, this...

Supplements and activity designed to improve circulation - an experiment.

I ain't no scientist, but I know from experience that the brain runs on glucose. And the brain's in charge of everything, so I need a certain carb level to feel okay (or whatever passes for that these days.) Diabetic diet (carbs limited) is good. Still, hard to not OD on carbs: popcorn, chips...
