Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Preparations to consider: Asesemble these items: Hand sanitizer, several bottles. If leaving home, take one with you and use frequently, as well as wash hands upon return, if not sooner. Thermometer (100.4F plus lower respiratory symptoms: cough, shortness of breath==call doctor) Mask--save...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Been glued to the virus news on the CDC website, WHO, to my detriment for being able to get to sleep. The big picture is that if containment of cases doesn't begin to curtail the spread in any specific country, then in order to continue having an effective healthcare system to save patients'...

Anyone have trouble writing by hand?

I have the right pen (a G-2 gel pen 0.7mm nub), but my problem is my focus. I start writing a word and the second letter or a later letter is wrong, a brain fart. Also, because of studying two languages roughly at the same time and not mastering either, I "code switch" and as a result, I...

Flexibility exercise training for adults with fibromyalgia Cochrane Systematic Review 2 Sep 2019

My personal experience with fibromyalgia and the advice to stretch throughout the day: Muscles feel extremely tight (semblance in the nerves to spasms) and cannot be stretched because of impedance (again in the tissue and/or in the nervous system). It is only after pain medication (low dose...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

The biggest problem for me (here in California and with a relative recently--3 weeks back from SE China) is fear. I pigged out on high fat, high sugar desserts yesterday. Same self-soothing attempts during the local firestorms the last 3 years. Hope I don't blow a clot of plaque while waiting...

Guardian - Chronic pain: prescribe mental health support as well as drugs, say experts (Feb 2020)

My opioid and muscle relaxant work for me (50-90% pain reduction). As for socializing (or mental health support), more problems than it's worth, except for the most empathetic and kind friends. This is rehash. There haven't been enough studies on the opioid front to conclude that they "don't...

Dismissing chronic illness: A qualitative analysis of negative health care experiences, 2019, L. Jason et al

I think I will, from now on, if I want acknowledgment or compassion, say I have an autoimmune disorder (one of my diagnoses). If I say fibro, forgetaboutit. And ME or CFS, it's not even heard. We need more science-based PR, somehow.

    Fibromyalgia and the Gut Microbiome

I am stating general principles about research. If something works for you, and it continues to help, fine, I think that's great. I have improved my diet as much as is possible and it has no effect on my energy level. Just because someone is a doctor or a microbiologist, that does not give me...

Book: Thinking And Eating For Two: The Science of Using Systems 1 and 2 Thinking to Nourish Self and Symbionts By Greg Maguire

What are the systems 1 and 2 referred to? I have just finished reading a psych research book suggested on the forum about System 1 thinking (our automatic emotion-linked brain and System 2, the rational deliberate and slow, lazy mechanism. Couldn't possibly be the same, no?

    Fibromyalgia and the Gut Microbiome

The hypotoxic regimen (French) for inflammation, a cure-all, panacea for what ails one. There is a book out, website, meal delivery. Hmm. Reminds me of Teilelbaum's book: From fatigue to fantastic. Fallacy: an appeal to authority, as in Trust me, the author, I am a physician (or some other...

'Pacing for people with M.E.' Action for ME booklet - revised and updated January 2020.

Pacing pacing pacing...up and down the living room and hall. That is what I used to do when I ran out of pain meds. I think that too much list making is a sign of anxiety. Don't most with ME develop, over the course of their illness, a form of pacing that works for them, empiric. Why do...

"Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Psychological or Physical Diseases?"

On the same website (medico-legal partners.com)there is a What is Fibromyalgia video from Jan. 2020. An MD explains fibro in his introduction which I find damaging: I paraphase: Fibro is often triggered by a physical cause (injury or surgery) or a psychological cause. The pain level is high and...

Article: Study gave me purpose when the future seemed bleak Jan 2020

Of course @James Morris-Lent, I can't even read the hiragana! My son is working for a Chinese company and I find myself reading everything about China. Since Kanji came from Chinese characters there is some concordance with Japanese. My son is not nerdish like me, so I'll have to use stealthy...

Article: Study gave me purpose when the future seemed bleak Jan 2020

I was able in the past (while disabled) to take one course a semester (two hours twice a week) at a low cost college. I did 3 semesters of french and dropped out of the 4th semester of Spanish (was too late in the day). Seven years of that. I had and have the means to pay for the French TV-5...

    Tinnitus treatment and management

Very helpful stuff. My tinnitus is mild, I'd guess, high pitched and one-sided and started 10 years ago, associated with hearing loss and becoming unconscious as a child after quite a fall from on high. I use ear plugs and noise reduction headphones in the house to soften the screech. Does help.
