Ageing brain & cognitive decline research, might have relevance to ME & CFS...

The researcher probably is talking to venture capitalists/big and little pharma.

Psychological impact of fibromyalgia: current perspectives (2019) Galvez-Sánchez,Duschek,Reyes del Paso

Well, I don't fit that profile. A lot of studies are done at tertiary levels (hospital-based programs which attracts the most complicated "emotional" cases).

Cognitive Impairments in Fibromyalgia Syndrome: Associations With Positive & Negative Affect, Alexithymia, Pain Catastrophizing.., 2018, Duschek et al

This blog from Scienfic American is written by a Stanford psychologist who has been researching pain catastrophizing (PC). I think she is a major voice in the PC field. I don't see in any of her research an attempt to categorize pain levels as well as consider additional brain problems (fatigue...

Mindfulness Could Be a Powerful Painkiller

Group mindfulness for chronic pain sufferers. How did they filter out groupthink and social pressure to respond (also to please the researcher) that their pain lessened?

Mindfulness Could Be a Powerful Painkiller

    Mindfulness is for pain-lite.

    ICD-11 Fibromyalgia - MG30.01 Chronic widespread pain

I finally get your points about the difficulty of diagnosing what may or may not be a discrete set of symptoms, of what is termed fibromyalgia or myofacial pain syndrome, whatever that is...

    ICD-11 Fibromyalgia - MG30.01 Chronic widespread pain

I do believe you and Dr. Wolfe are dead-wrong about there not being a fibrositis diagnosis (updated to fibromyalgia). It is a constellation of symptoms, severe symptoms, and yes, there is overlap with autoimmune diseases as well. In my case, non-specific autoimmune disease with secondary...

"Body Reprogramming: Patient guide for recovery using the Hyland model"

The problem IS that the body is not "adapting" (whatever that is). It is not self-correcting in ME nor fibromyaglia. That's the problem. Not the patient. The illness is the problem.

"Body Reprogramming: Patient guide for recovery using the Hyland model"

And Michael Hyland, et al, are at a dangerously low point in an IQ range of normal. My god, who gave this a green light? Why not invite aliens to venture a theory or two.

"Body Reprogramming: Patient guide for recovery using the Hyland model"

As a person with moderate to severe fibro, I thank you @rvallee for your vehement rebuttals. I cannot believe this airy fairy shite. Has Paltrow et Goop wandered into AI wellness theorizing?

Cognitive Impairments in Fibromyalgia Syndrome: Associations With Positive & Negative Affect, Alexithymia, Pain Catastrophizing.., 2018, Duschek et al

Yes, true. And these psychologists appear to have little interest/empathy with people in pain. I know that hearing about pain is unpleasant, drives folks away. All I can say is it isn't helpful to people in pain.

Cognitive Impairments in Fibromyalgia Syndrome: Associations With Positive & Negative Affect, Alexithymia, Pain Catastrophizing.., 2018, Duschek et al

And to further catastrophize about pain catastrophizing, here is the wikipedia entryg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pain_catastrophizing and interestingly it states: "However, we cannot yet rule out the possibility that at least some aspects of catastrophization may actually be the product of...

Cognitive Impairments in Fibromyalgia Syndrome: Associations With Positive & Negative Affect, Alexithymia, Pain Catastrophizing.., 2018, Duschek et al

Came across this article in Journal of Practical Pain Management https://www.practicalpainmanagement.com/treatments/psychological/pain-catastrophizing-what-practitioners-need-know Very fuzzy non-definition of what pain catastrophizing might be. Of course, the so-called professional (a health...

Stat News: To improve mental health treatments, scientists try to dissect the pieces that make them work

Not sure that anything definitive will come of this research, but it's worth a try. How to control variables that aren't in the treatment itself (life events, seasonal changes, etc.). Will they be looking at people who have had every available treatment and for whom nothing has worked? They are...

Study showing self-reported activity data not as accurate as accelerometer

One of the features of Major Depressive Disorder is a lack of movement. These patients stay in bed, stay at home. No big news, for sure.

Cognitive Impairments in Fibromyalgia Syndrome: Associations With Positive & Negative Affect, Alexithymia, Pain Catastrophizing.., 2018, Duschek et al

I've experienced pain castastrophizing with fibro pain. During a severe flare up of pain, yes, pain dictates mood and the mood is rather extreme due to the pain being extreme. But my mood brightens when the pain lessens and mood returns to baseline when the flare resolves (though a residual...

Effects of a health education program on cytokines and cortisol levels in fibromyalgia patients: a randomized controlled trial, 2018, Pernambuco et al

The pattern of cortisol secretion is altered in fibromyalgia. Normally it should be higher in the morning but in FMS, it's not. Certain cytokines are pro-inflammatory; others are anti-inflammatory (ILs 4, 10, 13). But the whole premise is sketchy.
