Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

On this tab it describes exercise as a 'miracle cure': https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/exercise-health-benefits/ Again, there's no warnings about exercising when suffering any chronic health condition, and no links to the evidence for the causal claims made.

    Covid-19 vaccination experiences

Seems to be an issue across the NHS, if someone is doing research into how A&E are dealing with patients with severe headaches. It might be worth you emailing this researcher with your recent experience.

NICE ME/CFS draft guideline - publication dates and delays 2020

So, are NICE going to review all the papers to check whether patient harm was adequately measured, recorded and followed up too (including long term), and then downgrade or reject the research accordingly? Pretty sure if they were to do this they would end up with very little research to assess....

Things that help with very severe light & noise sensitivity

Mine are very dark green. These look a slightly different shade of green, actually identical to the colour of green glasses that my eldest daughter was prescribed when she was about 10 (but never really wanted to use). I think Irlen Syndrome must be caused by the physiology of the eye-brain...

Things that help with very severe light & noise sensitivity

Interesting. I had prescription green glasses for my dyslexia/Irlen Syndrome since the mid 90's (I first got them as a mature student at university). The last pair I had made are now very worn and scratched. I'm now trying to find a local optician who will do the old-fashioned light box type...

Clare Gerada: influence on UK medical practice and ME/CFS management

Given that Gerada, Wessely and other notable names in the BPS community have risen to hold such leadership positions in the NHS and medical colleges and societies, as well as receiving titles in the UK honours system, I think it is very clear what happens in actual practice...

Clare Gerada: influence on UK medical practice and ME/CFS management

There is, after all, only 3 letters difference between the words 'these' and 'their'...

Clare Gerada: influence on UK medical practice and ME/CFS management

Wasn't sure where to put this information, but today I discovered that Clare Gerada is one of the two co-chairs of the NHS Assembly. https://www.longtermplan.nhs.uk/nhs-assembly/chairs/ Members of the Assembly are expected to follow the '7 principles of public office' (I presume this applies...

Patient Access App article on CFS

That's true, but I was particularly thinking about an updated and accurate article aimed at GPs for this site, as patients can point them to it because this is a site that is specifically designed to help give patients background information to improve the patient-GP consultations and to help...

Patient Access App article on CFS

I thought this information was worth posting because the new ME/CFS Nice guidelines are due to be published next month. Therefore this may present a good opportunity for appropriate people to submit an updated article to this site. Maybe one that is more accurate in describing the full range of...

Patient Access App article on CFS

There is also this article, which mentions ME/CFS and Long Covid: https://patient.info/news-and-features/what-you-need-to-know-about-post-viral-fatigue

Patient Access App article on CFS

I was browsing through the patient information links on the Patient Access app [https://account.patientaccess.com/] that my GP practice offers registered patients for ordering their repeat prescriptions, providing access to their basic medical records, vaccination history etc. The following...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

I was referring to how Paul Garner talked about his response to eating cake (highly refined carbohydrate) as a 'crash'. Lots of people without ME/CFS experience this, it is not something that is particularly linked to ME/CFS or post-viral syndromes (including Long Covid). Apparently he was...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

He was frightened he was allergic after feeling ill the day after eating cake, that's a reaction to a single incidence, not noticing a PEM pattern that has changed since he had Covid and coming to a measured conclusion. There is also the issue of age and other factors here, lots of people...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

But he's saying this in the context of having Long Covid/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome symptoms, not as the physiological issue of having too much refined sugar in one's diet over a period of time. I also notice having symptoms if I've eaten too much refined carbohydrates over a few days. I never...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

I'm not a doctor, but if I was noticing a link to sugar consumption and feeling 'crashed' my first thought would be potential diabetes...

UK: Abuse by paid and unpaid carers covered in new domestic abuse bill

I understand this, I was in that situation as a parent with two young children for many years.

UK: Abuse by paid and unpaid carers covered in new domestic abuse bill

Of course, this is an issue that requires much more than a single parliamentary bill to solve. It requires wholescale social change, suitable housing and a functional social care system. Beyond that there are the personal and emotional issues too.
