Cortisol and catecholamines tests - low cortisol / addisons?

I forgot to say... Cortisol testing isn't always testing the same thing. Approx 75% of cortisol found in blood is bound to either a transport protein called Transcortin, or serum albumin. Only a small amount is found unbound in blood. Cortisol found in saliva is unbound. Cortisol found in...

Has anybody with ME not contracted Covid-19 even when a household member has had it (or is suspected to have had it)

This sounds like the symptoms my husband gets when he has (what he calls) a migraine. He doesn't have ME, and his migraines are both rare and are almost or completely pain-free. They last a few hours. Any pain he does get tends to happen when his vision, speech and writing have returned to normal.

The Effect of Parenteral or Oral Iron Supplementation on Fatigue, Sleep, QoL & Restless Legs Syndrome in Iron-Deficient Blood Donors, 2020, Macher

One obvious question on this research is why are iron-deficient people being allowed to donate blood? I have read that if iron deficiency becomes severe enough it can cause sudden heart failure.

An addition to my previous post... One thing that does worry me about the internet getting censored in respect of medical information is that it makes it harder for anyone and everyone to put forward a new idea. It's probably too late for big pharma to get rid of dissenting voices about the...

MSD Manual (US): Chronic fatigue syndrome - updated Apr 2020 and Sept. 2021

The Merck site has a page for consumers and one for professionals. @dave30th Both of your links in the sentence above go to the Professional Version. I've noticed when reading the Merck site in the past that the links from the Professional page to the Consumer page and vice versa for several...

Wider collateral damage to children in the UK because of the social distancing [...] COVID-19, 2020, Crawley et al. And other papers by Crawley et al

I don't know how accurate these figures are, but apparently in the three months of the run up to lockdown 18.1 million people flew into the UK (I assume many of them were transferring to other flights and flying out again, but I'm only guessing), and only 273 were put into quarantine. Dealing...

UK - Resources for help getting food during quarantine and other supermarket related problems

I wrote the above post on 21st April. I went back to the same shop today and had an even more stupid experience. The fruit and veg aisle is on the far right of the shop as people walk in. When I got there today the end of this aisle was blocked completely by a big sign telling people to follow...

Glyphosate, pathways to modern diseases III: Manganese, neurological diseases, and associated pathologies

I'm posting this because it does mention "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" and "CFS", however it is not the focus of the paper. I thought it might be of interest to someone. The authors are Anthony Samsel, who I've never heard of, and Stephanie Seneff who I have heard of and have read some of her...

Exposure to Potentially Traumatic Events, Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms, Pain Catastrophizing, and Functional Somatic Symptoms.., 2020, Zerach et al

A question that has crossed my mind frequently when I've read abstracts/papers like the one this thread is about is when do the authors believe that people saying "I'm in pain" is "acceptable", "normal" and "healthy" and not the sign of someone displaying a symptom of mental illness?
