Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

On German news every evening they quote the Johns Hopkins statistics, which come out at around 18:30 daily, just in time for the news. The Robert Koch Institute figures are usually lower, because the JH numbers are compiled from more sources.

Difficulties of living with an illness not considered a 'Disease': Focusing on the illness behavior of ME/CFS, 2020, Nojima

I was encouraged by my Dr to "doctor shop", ie he suggested helpfully that I was free to go elsewhere if I wanted to. I told him I wasn't going anywhere, and I haven't. If I want something, I go to him, and he gives it to me.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Another classic line from the BBC: https://www.bbc.com/news/health-51915302 On the German news tonight they said that although the European borders are closing to non-EU citizens, there's an exception for the UK. Schools are closed here, so on Monday the shopping centres, playgrounds, parks...

“The real me shining through M.E.”: Visualizing masculinity and identity threat in men with ME/CFS using photovoice and IPA.- Wilde et al 2020

Interviewing ten blokes with a few snaps is not science. They really don't need to do it on my account. The use of "masculinity and identity threat" in the title shows that they've reached their conclusions before starting anyway. There are many views on what is a masculine identity, did they...

    Coronavirus: Advice from ME organisations

Before I had ME I used to go to the supermarket at lunch-time. No right-thinking German goes to the supermarket at lunchtime, so I usually had the place to myself.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

This can be contrasted with what the BBC were saying yesterday: Which is a milder formulation of what they originally claimed, and are now back-peddling from: https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-51874084

    Coronavirus: Advice from ME organisations

New post from Kekule today: https://www.kekule.com/ The 6 rules of the pandemic are not translated yet, so I've translated it below. I've sent him a copy of my translation and asked his permission to post it here. I don't expect he'll mind, but if he does I can remove it again. In the...

She's not the first person to say that to Sir Simon. Hopefully she'll fare better than the rest of us.

    Loooong Headaches

My ME started with a 6-week headache. Then for the first 3-4 years I would get 2-day headaches if I overdid things (or longer if I continued to overdo things). I didn't know that. I used to take ibuprofen for my headaches, not because it did any good, but because it felt like I was doing something.

New MEA Guide: ME/CFS The Ten Key Aspects of Management | 05 February 2020

My approach since getting ME is not to go near any GP I'm not sure I can manage. By which I mean if I want tests done, they do them or refer me to an appropriate specialist. What else do they think I'm there for? If they start waffling psychobabble I'm outa there. I've had one GP appointment in...

    O'Dowd-Crawley early intervention study

I've only just twigged why - it's because any stories of adverse outcomes would encourage false illness beliefs in all patients, which is exacty what the BPS crew are trying to stop. Why should patients with adverse outcomes (ie those who didn't follow the BPS approach properly so are...

Pathways to well-being: Untangling the causal relationships among biopsychosocial variables, 2020, Karanamuni et al

Untangling is the last thing they want to be doing, the whole thing relies on smokescreens, changing definitions and concepts, and general confusion inpenetrable to mere mortals. Without that, it's nothing. One of his colleagues had better stop this chap untangling before it's too late.

United Kingdom: Sussex & Kent ME/CFS Society News

Quite. He wrote this piece, which we discussed: https://www.s4me.info/threads/me-association-magazine-summer-2019.10788/#post-191812 He popped into the forum and made one post, but didn't really engage with criticisms of his article, for example a few points I raised here...

    CoQ10 - Coenzyme Q10

I tried CQ10 for a few days some years ago, and convinced myself that it was blowing my head off, by which I think I mean it made my brain even foggier, so I stopped.

The Hans Eysenck affair: Time to correct the scientific record (2019) David F Marks

How on earth do you even define or measure positivity? The whole field of personality characteristics is complete hogwash anyway. Is the mood the person was in when they took the questionnaire controlled for? The way their environment may have recently influenced their "personality"? Give me one...

The Hans Eysenck affair: Time to correct the scientific record (2019) David F Marks

Even Stephen J Gould, in the Median isn't the Message, included this pile of shite: https://www.cancerguide.org/median_not_msg.html It's just everywhere, and often taken for granted and repeated by people who fancy themselves as critical thinkers and really should know better.
