New German guideline for ME published today

Nothing to see here, move along. I will resign from fatigatio, as mentioned on the other thread about this. Fortunately I am not currently affected by this because I am in hiding from the health authorities, don't claim anything and never go to my doctor. It's like hiding from the Spanish...

    Guideline "Tiredness" by DEGAM

By the way, for our English-speaking readers, "zum Fremdschämen" means to be embarassed on someone else's behalf, like when your husband farts in company or something. The head of Fatigatio has just behaved in an equivalent manner.

    Guideline "Tiredness" by DEGAM

I am way behind on my forum reading, and have only just seen this. I too must face the sad realisation that I am the German equivalent of an AfME member. My main contact with other sufferers is this forum (S4ME). In Germany Fatigatio was the first society I found, so I joined it. I go to their...

Patient Engagement In Research: Why Do We Do It At All?

This is interesting. I'm sure it couldn't possibly be because it will be easier to dismiss the views of a lay member speaking on their own behalf than those of a patient representative speaking on behalf of a group. Now that we have lay members, where are the patient representatives supposed to...

    Activity diaries

I've been keeping one for about 2 years, I still fill it in every day out of habit. Really easy and simple. It has helped me to define a rank order of activities and how long I can safely spend on each one (shopping, kitchen work, playing music, and walking are things I don't do at all any more...

Stanford ME/CFS Initiative: PEM Avoidance Toolkit

I think this is an excellent document for new patients in the mild category who haven't made themselves much worse yet by not knowing how to pace. The document refers to tracking HR twice, and also recommends support groups, educational literature and going on the internet, where those...

Oscar nominations now being announced - will Unrest be among them?

Damn. I was looking forward to seeing @Valentijn on the red carpet in a posh frock :(

Why we victim blame -- and why Larry Nassar shows we shouldn't

Couldn't help being reminded of someone when I read this.

Henrick Vogt: "intense negativity spread by individuals/CFS groups/researchers" partly to blame for family's suicide

I never thought the depths a member of the BPS brigade could stoop to would leave me speechless. Congratulations Mr Vogt, you've done it. I have absolutely nothing to say.

"Time for Unrest": ME article by Nathalie Wright

I once met a young female bricklayer who was told by a colleague "You've got my son's job". I didn't realise people made the same kind of comment at Uni, I assumed it was just bricklayers, so might I take the opportunity to publicly apologize to any bricklayers reading for my unwarranted and...

IiME letter to Mark Baker (NICE) re: CBT & GET as recommended treatments

Instead of starting with the problem and trying to find a solution to it, they invented a solution first and are now trying to find a problem that they can apply it to. Having sold their solution as soon as they invented it, the job of finding the right problem is now a matter of urgency.

IiME letter to Mark Baker (NICE) re: CBT & GET as recommended treatments

I just refound this thread and am skimming pages 2-14 in an attempt to catch up (currently on page 11). My first impression of Mark Baker's response is as follows, forgive my perhaps ill-informed paranoid speculations: This is not about ME or GET or CBT. It is about the government-backed BPS...

    Unrest now on Netflix

I noticed this when I watched, and thought "I hope @Valentijn never sees this, she'll be all over the forum like a Hollywood diva." And now it's too late. Who knows, maybe soon you'll be able to say that you appear in an Oscar nominated film? Or an Oscar winning film? No need to mention that...

Feedback from Stakeholder Engagement Workshop for the NICE guidelines on ME, Jan 2018

I was delighted to be told in Berlin that "you do realise that there's nothing we can do for you". At last an honest doctor. Patients really don't mind being told this if it's the truth. Pity some doctors seem to have such a hangup about it, and an even bigger pity that patients have to...

USA: NIH National Institutes of Health news - latest ME/CFS webinar 14 Jan 2025

Distinguishing between false hope and real hope is a way of implying that the NIH have ever offered any hope at all to ME sufferers. I think many ME sufferers have learnt the hard way not to hope for anything at all from the NIH to avoid further disappointment. The idea of the ME community...
